Default Religion For Mom...

So my mom is looking to find god and asking me crazy questions. This was my reply to her, so I thought I'd share this with you even though I'm sure some people won't like it. It's all just opinion and I never meant to hurt anyone's feelings. I'm not sure how I keep getting distracted but I swear... it's gotta slow down soon, says the unemployed man.

Is the biblical account of creation compatible with evolution?

There are probably millions of ideas or speculations on how the planet and the people were placed here on earth. Before I can answer the question I need to cover a couple things in my head. First I need to look at how the bible was written and the authenticity of what we read today. Is the bible a prophetic writing or is it like the analysis of religion being made to explain how and why we are here while giving it all a moral meaning? Before there was the bible there was worship of simple things like, The Sun, Moon, Earth, Planets, Water, Wind, Fire and Spirit all with thier own stories and moral purposes. Those things sound like gods to me, I know people worshiped them. Is the bible prophecy and fact? I don't know, but if it was, overtime the church and it's branches have added and deleted so many phrases, words, books, you never know if what you are reading is true. Everyone knows that in 1611 King James got his people together and they decided what would be best for people to follow. It's definately not the original text written by the original people considering it's more than 1500 years after the events. Search "lost books of the bible" if you don't believe me.

Christians have certainly evolved: Catholics, Latter Day Saints, Apostolic, Rastafarians, Anabaptist, Charismatics, Orthodox, Protestant, Lutheran, Presbyterian, Angelican, Assyrian, Methodidt, Scientology, Arcane Christians, Adventists, Davidians, Pentecostals, Pietist and Holiness, Baptist, Brethren, African Initiated, United, Anglo Isrealism... So that's a few of the branches in the evolution of Christianity... and that's only within the last 1900 years. This is what I call diluting the waterhole. People come along and want to make Christianity better or to self serve a community for better purpose, so they change things and how they want it to be interperated. I know that most religions you don't find 100 different branches all representing the same thing with a twist. The only other one I can think of is Hindu, who work together for god and Muslims, who are fighting eachother for the land of the same god.

Muhammad lived during the christian era and was a prophet of god. The thing about the qur'an is that they tell you the book itself is a book of guidance. It's too bad another religion didn't take up that stance. Some of the texts in the qur'an are the same stories told in the torah and the bible. Infact some of the same people are known as prophets in Muslim religion. They believe in King David and the prophets like Abraham, Moses, Adam, Jesus and other prophets. So they are all very closely intertwined and I even think they all worked together to achieve things and well accepted among eachother. How's that working out today? If I remember the Christians tried killing all the Muslims in the crusades, and in the process Christians forced other religions to close thier doors or be burnt to the ground. The reason I take very little from Christianity... hipocrisy.

I believe religion was created to keep human nature and people under control. Just like the analysts say, but the thing about it is huge rewards can be felt if you take part in it. Human nature says do anything to stay alive meaning kill, steal whatever it takes afterall, we are animals. Religion gives guilt for these carnivorous feelings and tells you that pain is in the afterlife if you do these bad things, so who would want to have pain after they die? Just remember this, human nature will overcome God everytime... if there is no food on the planet and only Christians, Christians become the food for other Christians and Christians will find a reason why God thinks it's ok to eat eachother. If they don't, they die. That reasoning and understanding is human nature.

One more thing, debating something like this is silly. I know that the scientists didn't rush the church and tell them they were wrong about thier religion. So it's probably the Christians coming at the scientists for the debate. The only thing I think about debate is that it's a process to find the truth. But if one calls him/herself a Christian, doesn't that mean they've already found the truth? So really there is no reason to talk about it. You don't see any other religions fighting people over who made the planet, mainly because they aren't insecure about their religions. They believe their religion, so speculation never enters their minds. I don't feel that Christians are really devout to their religion like the masses of other religions, that's why there is always a need to fight about petty stuff in religion.

I see Creation is the magic theory where just all of a sudden... POOF! Earth, animals and God has his very own antfarm to watch. Who knows why God made all the other planets and galaxies or everything else in space for nothing. If we followed the bibles version then that means the Earth has only existed for around 15,000 years. We have cave remains that are older than 15,000 years and you'd have to explain where the dinosaur bones came from. Of course then religious people say... well, carbon dating is fake and man planted these bones in the ground to fool religious believers. That's actually what I heard come out of someone's mouth one time.

As far as Charles Darwin's theory on evolution, it's proven that animals do change overtime to adapt to their surroundings. Evolution is a time process of how biological species develope. Darwin was a Biologist and a Geologist, he didn't have anything to do with the big bang theory of how the planet got here. His theory spans over millions of years and how living things adapt to their surroundings. That doesn't sound too out of wack, I see animals all the time who have adapted to their environments. So there are a couple types of evolution, micro and macro and the quick lesson.

Microevolution, it would be something like, humans growing bigger and stronger through the last 10,000 years. Does or has that happened? Yes. If you remember probably 700 years ago men were normally short around 5' tall. Now look at us, 6' tall and still growing. We have adapted to the foods we eat, medicine we take, have twice the lifespan, that right there is evolution through technology, but it's also adaptation to your environment. These types of changes may be due to several processes: mutation, natural selection, artificial selection, gene flow and genetic drift.

Macroevolution is when a species changes significantly to adapt, becoming a new species. Before I say anything about this... Macroevolution isn't even fully accepted by the scientific community, so who knows why this is being talked about. But in regards to macroevolution, I'm sure this happens in the germ world all the time in bacteria, and viruses. They mutate or change into something new so they no longer resemble their original form. Another example would be when dinosaurs grew feathers and started to resemble birds of flight. I don't really know what the dinosaurs looked like because nobody has shown me a picture of 65 million years ago yet. Of course, some Christians don't believe in dinosaurs either because they are too old for God's timeline. If a human was born tomorrow with gills that would be an example of macroevolution. I'm not sure this happens but I'm thinking this is the type of evolution Christians want to see. Hey, I'd like to see it myself, it'd be nice to have other people to talk to.

To me evolution is evolution whether it's small or big changes. It happens. Did we evolve from apes? I can say that we were running around looking for bananas, and yes, it's probably likely we looked like apes. During times of an iceage humans might have naturally grown longer hair which covered their bodies to keep them warm. Like the concept of bigfoot or yeti. Could this happen? Yes. Did the neanderthals or nomads resemble an ape? Yes. Are neanderthals and nomads human? Yes. If you know anything about scientific classification you would see that humans match apes on huge levels and neanderthals probably moreso. As time goes on, more ape species go extinct and it won't take long for the homo species to disappear also... so what will replace the homo species? I think it will just be another humaniod species. It's all about how long it takes... we will never see it happen because the changes are small, but as time goes on, and it's looked at in segments of time, we are different than before and we will continue to change.

1 million years from now, do you think humans will look the same? I don't think so, infact, I highly doubt we'd even resemble humans of today 1 million years from now. I don't care if it's micro or macro or whatever you want to call it... but it is evolution. I think it all has to do with environment, maybe the planet will be covered with water and we will grow gills to breathe underwater because the air is so bad. We are all part of our environment and overtime all environments change so therefore people and genes will change. So if there is a lack of something, evolution will make sure that we adapt and live on. If we don't adapt, we die and that's natural selection which is part of evolution.

I don't think it matters either way if either are correct. We are here now and need to look to the future. If you want to say God did it, good for you, you have something to believe in and a moral system to follow. You should never denounce another person for what they believe in or tell them they are going to hell for finding god of a different religion. The feelings you have inside your heart and mind about god are the same feelings that person has about their god. Don't be part of the hypocrisy of religion.

If you want to say Time did it, good for you. I don't think if either are proven it makes a difference. Science isn't going to stop just because God created the world and religion isn't going to stop teaching morals if Time created the world. The important thing is that we all coexist on this planet and need to make it work no matter what the differences are.

I guess I better answer the question now. Is creation compatible with evolution. The only way these 2 ideas will coexist is when Christians look at the good book as a book of guidance and understanding of morals. Afterall, isn't that exactly what it is... the 10 commandments, the deadly sins, judgement day. Those all sound like things to follow so you don't get into trouble in the end and overall it gives life pupose, like there is a prize at the end of the ride waiting for you.

My belief, because I'm so logical it's hard for me to take any religion in. Must be attached to those younger years of fighting authority all the time and pretty sure I'm a nonconformist. I respect all gods on an open level, I never hinder anyone from finding any god. I don't believe you have to go to a church to worship god, god will be anywhere you want to find him. I think the concept is that as long as you have a god to follow and believe in, you are going to be alright. When I say god it could mean any god that has ever existed. I like to think that we all have god inside us and god is around us all the time. I believe in the forces of good and evil or at least the Tao concept force of yin and yang in the pendulum of life. I believe in the Buddhist style of moral understanding and the code of honor that Samurai carry in thier heart. I believe in the things that make it possible for us to be here in a Wicca sense, Sun, Moon, and the 5 elements and all the beauty and magic that surrounds us on a daily basis. I'm not sure what will happen when I die but I guess I'll know when I get there. To be honest, I'm not really worried about it, I feel at peace and that's enough.
