Lightbulb Atheist's take on weed...

I am an atheist thanks to Marijuana actually....
Marijuana OPENED MY MIND up to see how silly organized religion was. I had always thought it was kind of kooky, but after smoking for a few years I love to philsophize while I'm stoned and I have come to the conclusion that there is no "god", and that I am an atheist. If you want me to go in-depth as to WHY I don't really have enough time to write that all out.

I believe Marijuana did develop as a natural herb that mankind thousands of years ago discovered the benefits of, just like anything else out there including our food sources. Someone had to realize what we are allergic to, what might kill us, and what was good for our bodies. Marijuana is a wonderful substance and has helped me with my depression over the last few years that arose after 9/11 and a bad breakup.

As an atheist, I believe that one should not waste their own life and try to live and discover as much as possible before that fateful time of death. I smoke because I feel that in the long haul, Marijuana will benefit my mind. The benefits that have arose already are wonderful, and as long as I can stave off the harmful physical effects of Marijuana, I will continue to use it to help discover who I am as a person as well as help me deal with issues in my life.

May the large pharmasutical companies be damned with their poisons to help people.....the all-natural help is the one that for whatever silly reason, remains illegal. I believe it is a hypocrisy anyway for ANY "christian" to be against the use of Marijuana if "god" put the plant on Earth for EVERYONE to use according to the book of Genesis.

It is not a 'sin' to smoke marijuana, but it is illegal, a crime--like we don't already know that. Scripture gives us the leaway to commit civil disobedience when the law does not coincide with God's will in our lives. God gave us marijuana for our enjoyment and to use for medicinal purposes and to cook with as an herb of the field. Man declared it evil, God did not. It is not evil, it is only illegal. Modern law concerns itself with the fulfillment of the law and not justice. That is why a user of marijuana does not find justice in the US courts when arrested for using marijuana. God wants us to be healthy and happy in life. Marijuana is a means. Marijuana's only flaw is that it was used by minorities and the law-makers did not like white people doing what minorities did. Marijuana laws are hate-crimes against Americans by other Americans who keep the truth out of their lives in order to spread hatred of minorities and those who associate with them. Mandatory minimum sentencing is one of the most vile and wicked of laws ever written as this law removes the jury's right to assert that someone may have to violate the law in order to save their own--which includes smoking marijuana for those who need to use it for medicinal purposes. Be free with what God has given you.

It has not killed one person in all of history while tobacco, alcohol, guns, knives and automobiles and airplanes and wars have. It makes more sense to develope ways it can be used safely--such as an inhaler--without a risk of cancer from smoking it. Bad medicine kills more people every year--150,000 people die every year in America. The number killed from using MJ?--ZERO.

Weed has also helped me deal with things that I wouldn't have been able to deal with. I have add pretty bad. My best friend has mad add, he has adhd. Between the two of us with pills we have tried the adderall and ritalin and dexedrine and whatever else there is. The thing that works the best is weed. We found this out in no time.
I always heard when I grew up how bad marijuana is and how it breaks up relationships and you might as well throw your life away. That is the way I fealt before I had weed. Depression. Instead of being pissed off, I can get high. I am still friends with my best friend obviously. We smoke almost everyday together.

But about religion. I don't know about organized religion. I think the government wants to keep drugs like weed illegal so people don't realize what a bunch of bull**** we live in. I think that organized religion was created by a past government that saw no work ethic in their people. You can have government and rules that keep people in line saying that you can't kill or steal but if there is nothing to live for why follow the rules. What was life expectancy when moses lived? 20? It says in the bible that moses was 500 or whatever. How could you get people to follow rules?, the government asked themselves. How about telling them that there is something to live for, an afterlife. If you follow the ten commandments, which are rules ideal for a government to want their people to follow, they say you will be shown mercy and let into heaven where you will live in eternall happiness. This does not seem possible to me yet. This is the technique used by al-quieda not to make a comparison to catholicism but they brainwashed their soldiers into believing that crashing an airplane into the side of a builing and killing thousands of innocent americans will secure them a place in heaven where they will live in eternal happiness. To us, we know that this is not correct, what we see on tv and are taught everyday is what we hope is the truth. In afghanistan all they see on tv is how bad president bush is and how selfish americans are.
A soldier for al-queida does not get told the truth but they believe it is the truth because it is what they are told their whole lives. What i was told my whole life seems to not be right and I know that 9/11 was not right. Anyways my point is that i think religion was created by man.

One more example that somebody can hopefully clear up. Who wrote the bible? I have always believed that it was divinely dictated, that it was witten by God through man. If this is true why are there so many problems with the bible? It isn't even historically correct about israel or about moses writing it. It writes about 600 years of history of israel that didn't even exist. "The errors of confirmed history and archaeology pile higher and higher the more one learns about the actual times and places (in the bible), so that the idea that comes to mind again and again is that the writers of the Bible must have lived in the 7th and 6th centuries BC, or later, and knew almost nothing about the events of only a few generations before them." Wow, this is why I think it was created by man. The fact is: two hundred years of intensive excavations and study of the remains of ancient Egypt and Palestine have failed to support the Exodus story in the context in which it is presented.
Why are there two creation stories and why do they contradict eachother? In the first version, God created plants first, animals second, and man and woman next right? The other story says that god created man first, and then plants for him, and animals next and then a woman for him. What is going on? How is this written though God? If god created plants first then animals such as birds and cattle it says in my bible. Where do dinosaurs come in to play? Why did God not create dinosaurs? Why does it seem like they think the earth was created anywhere near when men arrived here? Oh maybe the PEOPLE writing it didn't know about dinosaurs yet. God should have told them about other things if he wrote it. The first fossil wasn't scientifically found until 1824. The bible says that plants were created before the sun and the sun formed before earth. After the earth, the sun, moon, and stars were all of the sudden appeared supernaturally in space. No astronomer will believe that. This seems as the earth is the center of the universe. My teacher says that it is the biblical part of the bible that is important not the scientific part. Why is the scientific part in the bible? Why are you trying to tell me that God wrote the bible through people?

Biblical scholars generally date Abraham to about 1800 - 1700 BC. The same scholars date Moses to 1300 or 1250 BC. However, if we track the generations as listed in the Bible, we find that there are only seven generations between the two making it seven generations in four hundred years, with life expectancy where it was, this is not correct. There is a few hundred year unnaccounted for. There is even an instance in which Moses is described as going to the Tabernacle before Moses built the Tabernacle! (I guess Moses was a time traveler!) And how did moses write about his own death? Moses also called himself the humblest man on earth, why would the humblest man on earth point out that he is the humblest man on earth? My teacher told me that the first five books of the bible, Torah, were written by moses. It is clear that moses did not write any of the bible because he couldn't have possibly been at the places he said he was. He wrote of the jordan when he is not supposed to have ever been to israel. The Torah was written much after Moses.
Why are there holes in the bible? Why are there always holes in everything. Things we dont know, or things we aren't supposed to know. From religion or government whatever. How many people actually think that the pentagon was hit by an airplane on 9/11? goto www.pentagonstrike.co.uk and watch the flash video. Now what do you think?

If anyone actually read any of this feel free to add your comment.

Dependds on how you want to define "dictated" , do you mean inspired?
"The bible" means a lot of different things to different people, and incorporates, or doesn't incorporate, a lot of other beliefs

What's fascinating are the parts that are correct

It does indicate however, how short written history really is.

History really get's interesting before the "bible" was codified

If you want to know more I have a few books I can reccomend

Well, Romans 13 says to be subject to your government. The US government says that marijuana use is illegal -- kinda. It isn't that simple. The government contradicts itself lots of places where marijuana is concerned which is why I am not convinced that, as a Christian, I shouldn't smoke it.

However, if I am ever convinced that I shouldn't smoke marijuana for religious reasons then I will stop. I like smoking and everything but I don't really need to.

Beyond the Romans 13 thing (as far as Christianity is concerned) then marijuana is all good unless you're constantly getting stoned out of your mind. Then I think one could make an argument that the command against being intoxicated would apply.
