Might I reccomend watching a copy of an old PBS program: Joseph Campbell and the Power of Myth (1988).

Your personal insights are remarkable in their similarity to Campbells work. Not identical, just similar.

Joseph Campbell also wrote The Hero with a Thousand Faces (Mythos Books) and The Masks of God: Creative Mythology (Masks of God)

...I checked and they are available at Amazon ...or just drop by with a Pizza and I'm sure Papa would love to watch his tapes with you.

Thanks Mama, I would love that. In fact, my folks are in the US right now, so I'll just call them and ask for the books, thanks for the tip

Now, to reply to your post (yes, I find some interesting things I can reply to), you mention that my "personal insights are remarkable in their similarity to Campbell's work", and I am not surprised.

I think I have not heard of this person (Campbell) before, maybe the name (like in Warhol's [spelling?] work, the tomato soup can!). I am not surprised that my ideas either have already been formulated, or are being formulated by someone else at the same time I do. This, to me, has a lot to do with what Carl G. Jung had to say about "collective consciousness".

He referred that there were "infinite memories" that we inherit when we are born, that there is a "universal memory", if you will. This is very close to my idea, and I have considered it many times.

To finish, I wanted to clear something out. Although it may seem that I am taking many ideas from other people (in pretty much everything I say), I honestly say that none of the ideas I have are "plagiarized" from other people; they are original ideas, my ideas (ah! the pride! The PRIDE!!, hehe), and what has really surprised me is that I have read many things (Socrates, Plato, Saint Augustine, Saint Thomas, Freud, Jung, etc...) that present to me almost the exact same ideas I've had, but in written form.

I enjoy life more and more, everyday. It is simply amazing! (off course, this is my mask talking, I'm sure that when I "discard" it I'll be going like "duh! I knew this all along, I just remembered it).

You hit the nail on the head...as we say here in the states...hi the bulls eye -- the collective unconcious and the entire Jungian theory of Archtypes.

Any hint just what country you attend school in, curious about where you would have such a fine education.

Heh, thanks Mama, but my education almost has nothing to do with my thinking (almost).

I live in Venezuela, and have always lived here. I've had the chance to travel to Europe, Paris and Rome would be more accurate, and to Miami and Charlotte. These are all the most notorious places I've been (this does not include a trip to Aruba and several to Margarita Island [the last is part of Venezuela, just in case]).

My education came from a private school here in Caracas (Venezuela's capital). Although private schools here are nothing like the private schools that you might find in Europe or The United States, I guess you could say I was lucky that the school was bilingual (Spanish and English).

When I left high school, I went on to study Computer Engineering at the "Universidad Simón Bolivar", here in Caracas as well. I dropped out (well, more like flunk out, but it was because I didn't really care.... I consider this a big mistake, because it is considered the third best university in South America) and went on to study Psychology at the "Universidad Metropolitana", which is where I am now (also in Caracas).

I am currently starting the career (just this October), but I did nothing from January to this point (as in studying). I just picked up on some minor lectures and started talking with people over forums and started downloading some interesting articles (and books) on the internet.

I liked something that happened in a psych. class some days ago. We were starting to study Psychoanalysis and we had already seen Freud (but in a very general manner) and were moving on to Jung. While the professor (woman) was talking about Jung's theories I just sat there, amazed to be hearing the things I have thought about during the two and a half years between my high school graduation and that day.

You see, here's where I say that the education I had doesn't have much to do with what I know (or believe I know). Interestingly enough, I have been smoking weed for two and a half years.

I'm not saying that it is the "cause of my knowledge", but it helped a lot, because my parents found out and there were some problems with my family, but I didn't quit, I worked on how to prove that Marijuana wasn't bad, concentrating on what happened to me while I smoked. So I started to think about myself, and that led me to introspection, and that, finally, led me to curiousness and gave me enough motivation to start doing the things I have learned to like.

This has a lot to do with this site, because I spent much time here hearing people's opinions on the subject, reading everything I found about Marijuana, and discussing it in many ways. That led me to understand the subject better and it let me approach everything from a different perspective.

That is why I am so fond of this site, and Marijuana off course, and that is why I like to participate in here often.

Peace.7L

I recently heard about Margarita Island from my friend the former-Commisarrio...he took his late wife there for their honeymoon 30 something years ago and still recalls it so fondly he gets tears in his eyes. Sweet man -- worked with the CIA, DEA and M6 back "in the day"

Somehow I don't think Engineering is where your brain is "at", it naturally takes towards the complexities if psycho-social interaction. You may be at Metropolitano now but keep your grades up. With your predisposition, I have an intuition you may have found an interesting niche for yourself that will make your family "forgive your former trespasses".

Follow your bliss... And get your hands on that Joseph Campbell DVD/VHS as soon as possible.
