| Wiccans? Wicks? Is this some type of religion? What is this Wiccans you are talking about, I know I've heard of them/it before (does it have to do with witches? or the like?) As you can see, I'm no "wiccan". Peace.7L

)I know a bit about Wicca, having read a few books and having attended Starwood several times. Wiccans always seemed to be good people, if somewhat overbalanced on the feminine side. They have good attitudes towards Marijuana and other fruits of the Goddess. I went to Findhorn and learned their system, which has lots of nature spirits. I've formed useful relationships with some of these spirits, which have kept the ants out of my house, the centipedes in the basement, and the spiders from biting people. My garden is essentially bug-proof because I set aside a wild area and negotiated with the bugs' overlighting spirits that they could party there as much as they wanted if they'd leave my food alone. My produce is excellent without using any chemicals. I'm just not an organized religion person, preferring the company of animals and plants.

| TC, LTNS! I have done a bit of research into Wicca, but settled upon the ways of the Druid instead. Here is the link for ya SL http://rdna.org/ read some of the liks on the Pseudo-Official Home Page, and don't worry, you can prety much digest the whole site inside 15 minutes. Druids seem to be particular about brevity... ![]() I have to agree with Buzzby, all of the practitioners of Wicca that I have met were all very nice people.

| Ah, yes. I studied this in college, an entire course was devoted to it. I have my opinions on it from an anthropological standpoint. It's Neo-Pagan, or New Age roots, but you'll hear the exact opposite from a Wiccan, who might claim it's a pre-Judeo-Christian religion. In reality, it assumes aspects of "pagan" religion mixed with New Age concepts. Almost cult-like, but a religion nonetheless. It's a nature religion, and most Wiccans I know are very nice people. Then again, a lot of people are really nice people, can't really attribute that to being anything or any belief.

| Interesting...Just found this place, and I find people with things in common. I too follow the Goddess and God. Good ta meet ya .Ahhh...Yeah Higher, that is often true. Wicca is pretty unorganized, so misinformation is an unfortunate byproduct of the lack of order. It is a new religion, formed just around the 50s, I believe. That said, I think that it is a valid application of older belief systems, customs and rituals into a religion somewhat similar to the hellenistic cults of the early Mediterranean area. Fitting with that time, there is a large differentiation between practictioners. While I do hope that a more universal system will be adapted in time, I dislike the idea of religious heirarchy, as I believe it removes a practitioner from direct connection to Deity. Wicca, however, fits for me. It makes sense, ideology and values both, and I do truly believe the existence of the Goddess and God. It's a modern adaptation, but the feeling is still there. We try to apply older ritual that works in a way that fits. And I believe the energy that flows throughout the earth has always existed, that Wicca focuses on understanding the nature of it, the nature of positive and negative energy and how it is applied. |

| Logos! My dear old friend. I was worried you had found the way to the next level of existence and left me behind. It is good to see you. Tried to PM ya but looks like your box is full. Hey im going to reinstall ICQ and hope to see you on sometime, that is if i can find my old number. ![]() Excellent post Sarrim, nice to meet you. ![]() I totally understand what you are saying about energy. That was one of the big reasons why i got interested in wicca in the first place, because they actually attempted to explain the energy i see when i look at people and feel when im outside around plants and animals and people. And its in a way that connects to nature and the planet, which i see as the source. I guess in a way i believe in a God and Goddess as well, God is the sun, Goddess is the earth. God gives us power, Goddess keeps us protected. And it doesnt get much fancier than that for me heh. Not your standard belief i guess but hey, whatever floats your pickle (usually pickle juice). But energy is amazing to attempt to understand and manipulate and wicca has some very good practices you can use to do so. But there is one thing i dislike about wicca and that is it seems to be followed by more women then men and therefore i find a lot of the literature written about it to be just a tad sexist. A lot of the books i have read have had this underlining feeling that a male practioner is great and all but will never be on the same level as a female practioner, and i just dont buy into that personally. It seems sometimes implied that because i do not bleed with the moon it is assumed i feel no connection to it. Pretty harsh to get told you can be at one with the world but if you were born female you can actually be one and a half with the world. Then again, i can hardly place the blame of a few representatives of the religion onto the whole thing. I have met many female wiccans who didn't believe male or female were more powerfull or connected or anything greater than their counterparts. And i happen to think thats a fairer assessment of things. |
