Those who are truly on the path of, "Holy...",Righteousness"...,sainthood"...,Popedom" ...,Yada yada,... know, that the place they hold in life has no more, nor no less importance than any other life.b.s.

In response to ganjx, actually it is possible to "reclaim" past knowledge.
How to do it is through hypnosis or through dreams,
theoretically.
Why you forget things after you die i dont know.
Almost everything in my previous post are educated guesses on a subject that is pretty much deep into the sea of mystery.
Also i need to point this out: one of the main reasons why i stopped beileving that there is actually a heaven or hell is due to everyone energy bascilly being the same
:what makes each of them different? And also whos if anyone is to judge? The god the christians worship could be conpirinig to the destruction of man. No one will ever know.Oh well, iam rambling again

For hundreds of millions of people around the world, the ultimate goals of spiritual development are self-realization and God realization. These spiritual goals are known by various names in different cultures; Christ consciousness, enlightenment, spiritual union, oneness with God, and illumination. Since the dawn of time, spiritual seekers, monks, prophets, and saints have spent their lives attempting to experience these goals. Unfortunately, our modern religions have wandered from their rich heritage of spiritual experience. Tragically, many modern religions and churches have become a poor reflection of the original spiritual experiences and teachings upon which they were built. The concept of personal spiritual experience has become an unexplored and mysterious phenomenon unknown to many religious leaders and their churches. As a result, millions of people settle for man-made beliefs and interpretations of their scriptures.

Foned: Just because the bible was written by mortals doesn't make it any less reliable. Sure I am believing in someone elses experiences but like you said in another post, since we were born, everything we believe is ultimately inspired by everyone around us. No matter how much you try to get away from the norm and the way the organized religious people think, you will always share some basic idea or theology or philosophy that someone else has already thought of. Just like the wise Solomon said, nothing is new under the sun. Solomon was the smartest most intellectual person of his time. Yet none of this earthly wisdom ever gave him true insight until he decided to follow God and his wisdom. In the end all is vanity. Every thought you think, every idea you create has in some way been taken initially from something else. You just add a new dimension to what has been already been existing in peoples thoughts since the beginning of creation.

Sure they can pick and choose, Mirage. "Good christians" have been doing it for hundreds of years now!

Here's what I think:

We're just another species on this big blue and green planet we call Earth. We all use energy to stay alive, but this energy is NOT a conscious thoughtful being, its just energy. When you die, you die, thats why they call you 'dead' and not 'alive in a different demention'. Sure our energy will be passed on to other organisms, but this unconscious energy doesnt have any memories or special skills attached to it that automatically transfer to the first worm who eats me! (Or, any other being for that matter) We are pattern seeking animals, and our minds are so geared towards seeing patterns that we see them even when they arent there. (e.g., The Kanizsa-square, do a search and you'll see what I mean)

The meaning for life is not assigned from on-high by a thoughtful being, the meaning for your life is whatever you make it. If you want to be a doctor, then thats the meaning of your life, if you want to be a murderer, then thats the meaning of your life. There is no ultimate meaning to life. Does this mean that we should all curl up in a ball and cry? Does it mean that there is no point to living and we should just all commit suicide?? NO!! LIFE IS FUN! LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL! LIFE IS THE POINT! THATS WHY WE'RE HERE! Thats why our mommies and daddies made us! They wanted us to experience this awesome, wonderful, fantastic freaking game called life!

LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL!

For those of you out there wrestling with spiritual issues and human beliefs you must read this book. It is a non-biased look at why people believe what they do.

You do have a way with thought.!However, bringing me into this wonderful life with all its grandur, and glorious experiences, was not really what my mommy and daddy were thinking about @ the time i was conceived. You see,i was the first one they decided to keepThe previous year,my mom@ 16 gave up a son for adoption.Still in high school, she, and my dad married, and the next year i was born.....I grew up influenced by a southern christian family background, short on values, weak on faith, and basically disfunctional even by todays standards.
I would like to believe that I have become wiser from my lessons, stronger in my faith through spiritual awakening, and happy in my expression of purpose...If all this and all its future, and the future of something I may have played a part in,has no meaning !!!as my body rots in the cold cold ground, and grass grows over my grave,I still don't want my tombSTONE to read"HE TOOK MORE THAN HE GAVE"b.s.

Thats just it Suede, Meaning does NOT have to be assigned from on high to exist. We create our own meaning! Who made Bill Gates a computer guru but Bill Gates? Nobody! He LOVES computers, and he LOVES making programs for them, HE is the one who made his life what it is, all Im saying is thats what all of us do.

For instance:

If a guy becomes the head of the Red Cross, and he spearheads a mission to Africa to save starving children, and no supernatural energies exist WHATSOEVER, does this man have a meaningless life? NO! He has a VERY meaningful life, he is at the head of a huge organization that goes around the world helping people in need. Now if that isnt a meaning to someone's life I dont know what is!

The meaning to my life is my beautiful wife, and my life is quite fulfilling!

As far as the 'why mommy and daddy brought you here' comment, that was just a general statement about reproduction of a species as a whole. Basically a metaphor for why reproduction is such a high priority!

As far as your comment about the tombstone, why does not having any supernatural beliefs mean that someone would die taking more than they gave? Ouch! Was that a jab? I know I am one hell of a nice charitable guy when somebody needs help....

I love how these abstract thought threads that i post come out being like 30+ responses with decent thoughtfull ideas in them. I barely even comment on these past the first post cause i like to sit back and read what you guys think but i think im going to jump back in on this one.

If there was a good point to faith it would only be that it keeps people who need it going. If there was a bad point to faith it would be that the people who need it think other people need it to keep going too and theirfore judge or force others into there beleifs. I know many christians who deny that they try to get others to beleive what they beleive but yet they still do the same thing when someone is unsure of what they beleive. They try to "guide them" but their guidance is no guidance at all alls they are doing is slowly making the person a believer of their faith. Like online on AIM i have as one of my interests Athiesm, now im not an athiest im a darwinist but thats the only thing that signifies my non belief in god. I get random messages from people saying I love Jesus. I always reply thats nice to them. Then we get into the discussion of why i believe what i believe. I always say that god doesnt answer questions i have and that science and fact does. They always go on this little typical statement asking me what im searching for and recommending i let god into my heart. Whats with that? Do they teach you people how to do that in that little white building. Sometimes i wonder if they have some sort of conversion point system where the more people you guys get to join you the better the prize you get. It really makes me angry. I think that what i believe is right but i dont sit there and try and force athiests, christians, or catholics to let darwin into their hearts! Why should it be any different for people of religious faith? If someone could answer this without 5 paragraphs of bible quotes please do. Thats another thing actually ya know if you have a thought state your thought and if you have a back up on your thought that comes from the bible by all means post that too but seriously SOME of you here just posted about a page and a half of the bible with little comments tossed in between and that makes my ideas reinforced that alls you people do is preach to non beleivers. So please teach me a thing or two and dont do that.
