Well actually you need the rest of the verse for us to answer this, or at least for it to make sense:

The fool says in his heart, "There is no God." They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no one who does good.

The Hebrew words that rendered "fool" in Psalms means someone who is morally deficient. So there's your answer to the first and second question, since the writer of Psalms—not the Christian god, because the Christian god didn't write Pslams—was not talking about atheists either.

I guess it also depends on what you think sin is. The Jews gave the idea of sin to the Christians, and the Jews have a completely different idea of what sin is. Nachmanides said it best:

"We gave you Christians the idea of sin and you didn't know what to do with it. You'd be better off to just go on being Pagans."

Then again, if you really want to get detailed, we'd have to start talking about where the terms good and evil, Satan, and sin come from, and that would mean a lengthy discussion on Egyptian religion, but more importantly the movement of the Egyptians from the North to the South...but that's probably way too much for this thread

dedbr, please stay on-topic. If you continue to post seemingly unrelated nonsense in threads, I'm going to start warning you for "turbo-posting", which is against the posting guidelines.

I've tolerated your off-topic posts all across the board for some time now, because they haven't harmed anyone, but really this is getting ridiculous.

Consider yourself verbally warned, if you're going to post something that seems to have nothing to do with the topic at hand, you'd better post WHY it has something to do with the topic at hand or it's going to be considered off-topic and I'll probably start deleting your posts.

So what does morally deficient mean? Unrighteous? What does unrighteous mean? That doesn't really tell me much. I guess it means God doesn't like you very much if you say that in your heart?

My bad on the Christian god, I made the topic without proofreading and later I realized it was an old testament quote, heh. But, you don't think he was talking about atheists? Why not? It says, "hath said in his heart", that means someone who believes it, not just professes it.

I don't make off-topic posts. I don't have enough time left to waste it with off topic posts, pooter. If I have to post why my posts have anything to do with the topic, then why do you seem to be the only one who has a problem understanding my posts?

My first post, from the book of James..."But the tongue is an unruly evil..." has to do with the use of the tongue to cut too deeply at times. Merely my way of saying that not all scriptures are always sweet and poetic.
