I'm only saying what I just learned a few months ago in history. Muhammed heard the angel Gabriel speak to him, he then went to town. He was laughed out of town so he went to a neighboring one. A while later he came back and took over the town killing the people who did not convert. So sorry for telling what I know.

Some people dig the whole church thing, and I believe that some people are even better off going to church. The fact is some people just function better with some sort of structure in their life, and face it, believing that if they go to church regularly, and do what is " right " that they will go to heaven, this gives them that structure. I personally don't like having my actions governed by some ever powerful parent figure, and I as of this point do not believe in god. I say as of this point, because for all I know later on in my life I may have a profound realization that makes me change my views. But for now, I live life as it comes, one day after another, just hoping to enjoy my time here, and do what I can to improve this place called earth... haha that sounds funny when I re-read it, but I guess thats how I feel since I just started typing without thinking.

ok...so that's like me saying...
jesus claimed to be the son of god...so the jews got mad and crucified him...but he came back anyways and his descendants started a crusade to kill people who didn't believe...so christianity is about killing ppl

it's completely disrespectful to reduce something that historically relavent and something that is of such importance to a huge population of the world to a mere "Islam started by people killing non-believers." think about what u say and how much u know about the topic...it's not always best to say sumfin just cuz it's on ur mind.

Why? I'm not defending his statement but he has the right to speak his mind. just because other people have a much different opinion than his, doesn't mean he can't voice his opinion.

i didn't say he shouldn't voice his opinion...just that he actually think about what hez saying first...it would make the world a lot better if ppl actually put a very small amount of thought into what they said...there'd be less confusion...less misunderstandings...and more chillaxin' time

Organized religion isn't about spirituality, it's about coercing people to do what the church wants them to do. You know, 'cause otherwise they'll go to hell and all

Religion makes people into zombies. Nothing wrong with going to church, but don't buy into everything you hear without taking a critical look at it first. Otherwise you'll just be some zombie who's let a 2000 year old book and a bunch of fearmongering clergy destroy your ability to think critically about things and make your own decisions.

Come on man, you're smarter than that. I'm not a zombie, and neither are the other millions of people who believe in organized religion. Fine, take a critical look, that's what every Catholic is supposed to do before confirmation. Then you know you want to be part of the religion. There are exceptions to every rule, and some people just follow blindly, turning into "zombies". However, the exception is not the rule.

Oh, I see. A religion whos teachings directly support the assertion that critical thinking is a sin, and that it's right to mindlessly obey authority, somehow isn't designed to create zombies?

I'm not saying that everyone who goes to church is a zombie or anything, but that is the desired end result from religious leaders' perspectives.

I see what you're saying, but the expression and motto "What would Jesus do?" could really be the best teaching of Christianity. I generally speak of Christianity only because I just don't know enough about other religions. Jesus certainly thought critically. And exactly where in the good book does it mention critical thinking as a sin. It doesn't have to have the exact words, but I would mind a little passage. Not trying to say that you can't find one, I'd just like to see one.

And which religious leaders are you talking about anyway. Father Robert Bullock (deceased) was basically my hero. He deviated from the will of further up Christian leaders and was respected and loved by every member of our Church.

Not all religious leaders will try to zombify you.

Here's an obituary which details the ass kickery.

Romans chapter 13

Let every person be subordinate to the higher authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been established by God. Therefore, whoever resists authority opposes what God has appointed, and those who oppose it will bring judgment upon themselves. For rulers are not a cause of fear to good conduct, but to evil. Do you wish to have no fear of authority? Then do what is good and you will receive approval from it,
for it is a servant of God for your good. But if you do evil, be afraid, for it does not bear the sword without purpose; it is the servant of God to inflict wrath on the evildoer. Therefore, it is necessary to be subject not only because of the wrath but also because of conscience. This is why you also pay taxes, for the authorities are ministers of God, devoting themselves to this very thing.

I think that's pretty straightforward. Don't ask questions, don't think about what authority tells you to do, just do it.

If that's not enough, how about the story of Adam and Eve? I mean, they're offered fruit from the tree of knowledge by a snake, than tossed out of paradise because Eve wanted to learn. What do you think the message there is? God disaproves of knowledge, maybe?

There is alot more than that, too.
