Default Church

I generally do not believe that there is anything wrong with abstaining from going to church, and as my parents do also I have not been to church very many times in my life. I had always thought of it as some guy telling you what to think about god, which was never my cup of tea, but recently I was watching that 70's show when I found another spin on going to church. The mom was complaining that she couldn't get her family to go to church while at church and Hyde's stoner boss at the photo booth (Cheech) popped in and said about church something like "it's cool man you come here and sit with these people and listen to a guy tell you stories"

I understand that could anger some religious people but it seems to be a somewhat more realistic view on it that could make it more interesting for people like me who want to leave it up to themselves to make decisions on religion.

Well, not trying to be in ass in any way, but we have a religion thread. Try a search. If the only problem is skipping church, then I'd just say that it's a good way to stay active with your religion. If your church doesn't help with that, then find another one or don't go. Your decision. Or just keep going. Whatever you want.

I had a hippie dad so I've been to church maybe 3-4 times in my entire life. Kinda really boring when I did go though. I'm not really a fan of religion since they're all based on lies and what someone heard from "an angel in a cave", and since they're all spread by killing people to make them believers is a big downer for me so I'll never go to church.

My parents used to force me to go, but then I decided I just wouldn't let them force me go, and just sat there until it was to late for them to take me without me putting up a fight that would make them late. I argued that my religion was my choice, and if atheist was my pick then deal with it lol.

Default *very stoned rambling*

There is good in religion, its just been put aside in most peoples mind because of the bad things mass religion has done.

What I mean is; some of the morals that are in the bible are good ones to live by. It tells you to be kind to everyone, it tells you to not retaliate for what others have done to you, it tells you to help beggars'. but what happened is that man threw things in to dominate society; it tells you to walk a very narrow line or suffer the consequences, it shows a vengeful God with a short temper. This has caused a lot of society to feel like they have a duty to uphold certain laws to please God, causing terrible things have been carried out in the name of God. It still effects today's society.

SOME christians have a sense of arrogance hanging around them. They feel that since they're doing "God's work" that they are good, and when they see someone doing something he doesn't think is morally right, they think that person is bad.

But what a lot of people don't really see are the good christians that totally invest in the bible, but are completely open-minded about anything. The love everybody, whether they are a drug user, a homosexual, or even a person who hates christians. They might not agree with what everybody does, but they still understand that they are human beings and worthy of all their respect.

My point is that there are very good people out there that happen to be christians; and that it's easier to see the bad in things, than it is to see the good.

I used to go to church almost every Sunday for many years. I was never a fan of church and nothing they said interested me or even made me think twice of my own actions, it was always boring to me and seemed like a chore more than anything. My parents decided to get a divorce about 3 years ago, they went through councilling and all that jazz but it didn't help so they are still getting divorced. Ever since than I haven't been to church. My dad, who didn't want the divorce and was the religious one, I guess just lost faith after what happened. Now I don't go to church even on christmas or easter.

I saw that 70s Show episode, and i thought that was a pretty funny line. I don't think there is anything wrong with abstaining from church, as long as it's a good reason. If you don't want to go to church because it doesnt help you or provide any spiritual enlightment than don't go, but if you don't want to go to church because you want to go kill someone instead...well than I think you better go to church.

**** you ignorant face. Do some reading or maybe just not judge so quickly. Seriously, how do you kill someone to make them a believer. If you're talking about the holy crusades, that wasn't to make them believers, more or less. If you're talking about missions in general, then you have to realize that there are so many that are positive. Generalizing doesn't help anybody. And that all based on lies **** should just be stricken from that post. What the ****, man?

I wasn't talkin about christianity, i was talking about religion in general. Islam started by people killing non-believers, the other religions are just made up by a single person and have now morphed into the juggernauts that they are now. I'm not trying to put down religion in any way, sorry if I came off that way but I just do not believe in religion for those reasons. You can believe whatever you want and I'll still smoke a joint with you anytime man.
