FunkyBass: You need to learn more about the theory of evolution. As Bailey said though, the evolution debate should be kept out of this thread.

As for the topic, I consider myself Agnostic. No real reason to explain myself

I'm Roman Catholic. i grew up in the church and went to mass every sunday when i was younger. I believe in alot of the teachings but im not truly opinioniate(sp?) on them. I'm at a point in my life where i feel i should just live my life, and not worry to much about religion. I don't think Jesus wants me to sit around all day in church worshiping him. I feel that he wants me to be me and enjoy doing that. I'm to young and not smart enough to make a very serious commitment to the Church yet. But recently i have been starting to feel like i should start attending church on the weekends, but i never have enough enthusiasm to get up and do it myself. I don't believe that i'm gonna go to hell if i don't go to church. I believe that to get united with God after my death i have to live a good life and never hurt anyone.

I've been confused recently because i've been thinkin about it. look at it this way: theres so many religions out there, im not so sure if i want to follow one. How do i know what religion is the "real" religion. I know i'm supposed to have faith that My religion is right, but i dont think im ready to do that yet cuz i'm still so young.

I am an athiest. I was brought up in a religios family, but my Mom had had her relgion forced upon her when she was young, and gave me a choice of what to believe myself. Religion seems like a bunch of crud for the most part, why is any one religion better than another? Hon do I choose one? My gut tells me that life is what it is and there is no "God" in ANY kind of Judeo-Christian sense. Maybe there was a Universe Creator of some sort, but I do not see any evidence for Heaven/Hell/souls/or its continued interaction in our world. Why would it even care about our piddly little universe, when if it is truly an infinite creature we must mean no more to it than the ant does....

Anyway, I do not "believe" in Darwin's straight theories of evolution; theories is all they are, but I think the thoery that we did descend from a natural selection/evolution process of some sort is at present the best possible theory to explain what we see.

I do agree that Carbon dating is relatively inaccurate, but when used with other evidence I think it tips the scales in favor of a pretty old Earth (I think evidence points to a 4 billion year old Earth?)...

Anyway, I smoke weed too, and I find that life is plenty meaningful without God/religion's "comfort".

Peace,
Chris D

I believe in the sun. But Carlin doesnt worship the sun, he said it infringes on the relationship. So he believes in the sun, not worship.

I have neither the time nor the inclination to diligently defend evolutionary theory and scientific fact against creationism. If you want to believe that humans just popped into being one day some 4-10 thousand years ago and just started to go about their business then power to you. My explanations of evolution, the fossil record, mass extinctions, and biodiversity would do little to change your mind. After all, you said it yourself.

I can't even begin to respond to the rest of your post. It is unclear where to even begin without having Panama or someone beat me with a stick for flipping out over your ignorance.

Hopefully you will read The Bible more closely as you said and spend alot more time considering the words written in scientific texts as possibly being more than just fiction.

To answer Vaya's request, I was raised in the Episcopal Church. I currently don't make a habit of going to church unless it is for something special like a baptism, Easter etc. but expect that to change as my daughter grows up.

I agree with what most of you are saying.

I believe in Karma. What goes around comes around, and so I am beginning to always ensure that what I do is fair, at least in my opinion.

I see so many people judge the world and find a faith in God based on our current perception of the world... when there is so, so much more to it. In fact, man severly limits his potential through our common views as a society.... we say we cant lift cars and lick our nuts, but I beg to differ...

I'm stuck between believing in an ultimate creator, not necessarily 'God' as I've come to know it, and just basing our evolution and such on science. Science is wholly unreliable, seeing as it is a field dominated by humans.

I believe that humans need an outlet, a primal outlet as it were, to remain fully functional beings. Outlets such as hunting, sex, meditation, friendship and, ahem, 'utilizing' plants.

Buddhism has the basic concept and construct of a religion in my opinion. There is no God, per say, but an enlightened being that, through the primal outlets, we hope to achieve. It emphasized living life through good deeds and meditation.

Although I am not Buddhist.

Nor am I Christian.

Christianity, to me, is a religion that acts more of a blinder than a path to 'seeing' what our real world is like. It sticks its believers in the limits of society and tells them to 'work with it' and pray. Overall its ideas are good, but the method of teaching it leaves a lot to be desired. Its more of an imperative religion and asks that all of its followers be essentially the same in their beliefs and actions. Or you go to heaven or hell. There are only two options with Christianity, and that kind of limit makes me realize that it is not the religion for me.

Eastern religions have a lot of influence on me. They are more of personal religions and allow breathing room. Why is this good? No two humans are alike, and if all of a religion's followers need to be alike..... hence all the tension between the different 'sections' of Christianity. The religion itself is so vague that it needs to be broken up into many sections that only vary slightly.

I would never be so pretentious as to claim that I 'know' that there is a supreme being over all of us... To claim that I have 'seen' God and are now following 'his ways'. No, if this were such a supreme being, he would not make himselves so accessible to us. We f.ck stuff up.

I'll continue more later.

Man i agree with you totally about evolution. I learned it in Biology class last year and I thought it was bull**** but I did the work and kept my opinion to myself because I don't want the teacher to fail me. As for myself, I grew up Catholic but I'm more of a christian for the same reasons as FunkyBass. Oh and about your question of Rasta, go here

this is a great website about one of the the greatest and most influential men ever.
