Default What religion are you?

I did a search and nothing came up so what the hell I'll post it.

There really is a variety of religions here, its not like we're all Christians and Jews and whatnot. So feel free to:

1. Post your religion
2. If you want to, say why you believe/follow/are interested in that religion

George Carlin worships the sun lol...I was born to a catholic family...i think their insane though. like some dude was born from a virgin mother...turned water into wine...then died and came back...

i think the story of Jesus is a great one if you make sure not to take anything literaly...the teachings Jesus gives us are unique and quite useful...but to worship and put blind faith into anything is simply limmiting yourself and basically giving up on trying to make sense of anything more than what you know... which is fine..

i got my own beliefs though...i think all religions have something good to say...but to take anything literally and start worshipping...only starts fights...think about it the bloodiest wars in our past were over religion...now you tell me thats what jesus wanted...hundreds of thousands to die by the sword...be burned at the steak...have their head chopped off...and an inquisition that would rule by fear for quite some time....no...

so i dont put any stock into any religion....but i do believe in a creator being or some collective force that is a higher being...we all need something to pray to and put our hopes into when all odds seem against us...thats me...

i also think jesus used marijuana...i could see him being a real stoner...**** if i felt i had a calling to give up everything smoke weed and give it to others to share and enjoy i would do it...cept today id prolly be arrested..

I'm a Christian and I belive very much so in the teachings of the Bible I think they just make me a well rounded person, but anyway I'm Roman Catholic but don't belive in the Roman Catholic ways...they don't encourage you to read the bible and their church's are almost all based on money. The priests take vows of celebecy and Hell ...Look what Happened to them!!! I have been raised as a Roman Catholic but in my heart I'm a Prodisent (sp?). I'm a kid right now though and even in the Bible it recognizes that some people don't find complete faith until they get a bit older and I think that right now I'm just not ready I'm just enjoying being a Teenager. I know that someday I'll read my bible more often and go to church...because it isn't only the desire to go to heaven that motivates my religious choice but also a big part of it is the fear of Hell. My stance on drugs is that Weed is good I belive because God created it, and put it here for our usage...I think that Crack, Cocaine & Heroin are bad though because Man made them and the creations of Man are currupt in many ways...Also I must say that I used to hate all religions and think they were stupid until about a year or 2 ago when I started smoking pot.

***THE STUPIDEST THING IN THE WORLD IS THE THEORY OF EVEOLUTION.***

If you actually belive the teachings of Charles Darwin, you probably haven't read his book that started it all...The man's theory Supports Racism, Genocide and Murder...beliving that the White Race is the only pure race. BULL SH** !!! Even toward his death the man himself began to renounce his belief in the theory but it had gone to far...no one would listen anymore.

Picture this chart ...
THE Monkey ..(Evolving into).. THE Man

We have monkeys...we have men! They are both still around. If the theory of eveolution holds ture the changes would have been made so that the anaimals could survive...and we still have monkeys and men around today...where are all these half Man/Monkey things that are showed in the pictures.

Well we have fossils and skeletons...we have barley any of these (very few indeed) and The one MAJOR find being the skull of one of these creatures has been mainly classified today as a Deformed munkey not a Missing link. (not that i trust scientists anyway) Carbon dating is CONSISTANTLY PROVEN to be non Reliable. Things that have Turned up as being over 1,000,000 Years old...Lets list a few shall we ?

1. A Freash Apple from a grocery store.
2. A 5 Year old Tree.
3. See where I'm going with this!!!

And how can you belive in a theory that changes everyday...they are constantly changing the Rules of evolution...When it happened ? Why it happened ? ...Reasons! Proof! There is none.
The Bible has been around for more than a Thousand years and hasn't CHANGED any since then. The bible Predicts things that are happening in our ever changing world AS YOU READ THIS !
- -- --------------------------------------------------------------------------
I do think Jesus wouldn't have wanted those things mentioned in the post before Mine...the wars and what not Thousands dead. But these are things that Man has done on his own, Our Free Will and ability to make decisions is what destroys us. God gave us the power to choose he doesn't control "Everything". Those wars happened for good reasons in my opinion, It's called Testing your Faith...they are much better reasons that the polititcal reasons that we start wars today !

and as for not wanting to devoute yourself to something and start worshiping...I don't go to church all that often but I do keep the sabbath Day Holy, I spend lots of time thinking about God and Christ and thanking them for everything that there is a around us...If anyone asks me for Hard proof of what the Bible says I just say

"Look Around you Man, and go stand on top of a mountain and look at the world around you ... try to find fault in it that Man hasn't created on his own...This world is Perfect and Beautiful next time you find a place with a Good View Go Smoke a Joint and Really take a look around and analyze your life...and what things are REALLY important to you. What matters anymore ? there's only one answer to that question. Happyness."

If anyone here is Rasta I'd like to know what the Religion is based off of and what are the beliefs that go with Being Rasta ?

let's save a debate on the theory of evolution for another thread, but I gotta go with what science has discovered. Scientific laws and theories are always changing as we discover new things, it's how it works, but nevermind, let's get to the topic at hand.

I claim no religion. I don't think any one religion can be completely right, but all point towards the truth. My beliefs I've cobbled together from various sources, mostly eastern philosophies and my own experiences. I belief that this thing called "God" by christians is the same thing that taoists call the tao, hindus call either the atman or brahman (I always get the 2 confused), rastas call jah, muslims call allah, is the same thing.

I believe that this "thing" can not be named for it has no properties of it's own. I hesitate at even using the word "thing" or "it" to describe, but we have to call it somethign to talk about it. This thing is the sum of everything. It is everything. It is you. It is me. It is all of the objects you can see, and all the ones you can't. It is.

If you were to ask me, "so, is god.....this table?" I'd say, "no god is not that thing." because it isn't, the table is part of it as we all are, but by itself it is not. You can name off everything you can think of and to each one I would reply, "no, it is not that thing." Not that thing. It is no thing. No thing. Nothing. It is everything and so it is also nothing.

By smoking herb, dancing, playing music, meditating, making love, and other similar type activities we break lose our bonds that make us recognize false constructs like "self" and "I". We become high and lose sight of ourselves. And so we can see everything else. We simply are.

So be kind to your brothers and sisters because we are all a part
of the same thing.

All i know is that i am a Christian....Lets see; i was born a Pennicostal, but i dont agree with some of the stuff there; and later i began going to a Baptist church where i felt more comfortable. I agree with FunkyBass, about all of it. (you pretty much said all i wanted to say, man!). I believe that perhaps God created evolution to run the place, if that can make any sense...but i doubt we came from monkeys. I go with the story of Creation. I dont mean to contradict any other beliefs, because i believe that everyone is entitled to believe in what they want to. My basics are that there is a heaven and hell, and that one should pray everyday and if one asks for forgiveness it will be done. That's how i was raised, anyhow. I just dont see why religion causes so much conflict though. Everyone should just leave each other alone and smoke their weed. sounds good right now....

mmmmm....steak

i dont claim to be part of a 'religion'... i think religion is a good thing in respect to the people who are F***ed up and then religion changes their life... but i think our society has moved past needing religion to attain some sort of enlightenment, with so much information available to us we can form our own beliefs without needing the guidelines of a structured religion.

i suppose i would fit under the broader defintion of 'agnostic' in some ways, i just dont know what the truth of our existence is, and no man on this earth does either. i dont beleive in heaven or hell... i think when you die you are all alone for the rest of eternity, and you will come to judge yourself for your own actions. it seems most 'bad' people are driven by greed and materialism, and if one thing is certain about death, its that you will be leaving such folly on earth where it belongs. the materialistic person now stripped of all its prescious posessions will be left to forever contemplate and regret their actions while alive, but will never be able to return. on the other hand, if your a good person then you will just exist in peace forever...

i think that fits into what jesus was trying to tell us, i beleive that jesus was a real person, perhaps not some immortal son of god but clearly he was onto a good thing, unfortunately man just had to twist his words and make a profit from it, but really this just reinforces the fact that mankind is weak and greedy.

i do have faith in something greater than mankind... call it what you will (why do people feel such an urge to label everything) but there has got to be something greater than man... if you believe than mankind is the highest form of life then you have alot to learn... i guess i just have faith in something, i dont know what it is and wont till i die

but think about this... we live in an impossibly immense void of nothing thats speckled with small (relatively speaking) points of light, the whole of life as we know it is just a small flicker in an infinite darkness... our planet orbits the sun in exactly the right place to sustain life, in fact the extremities of the planet are too hot or too cold for many of us, the odds that life could exist are almost none.... yet life finds a way. thats just it...life always finds a way... and thats why i have faith.

*edit* you tha man bailey .. see you 'on the other side'

I had an entire post written up but I mainly agree with Bailey. You cant say you believe one insanely retarded story without atleast believing, IMHO, another one.

hehehe i always try to keep holy the sabbath...by sleeping in...not showering...sitting on my ass all day not doing any work ...and of course if i have some bud smoking it up...

hehe thanks for catching my miss up...steak... hehehe...had a good laugh...

my whole point was that i think religion is fine its just when people begin to pay attention to the unimportant things(that the bread at mass is ACTAULY the flesh of jesus...or that jesus was truely the son of god)...its fine to believe in those things but when you choose to believe in one thing you distance yourself from others....and thats what i was saying is the UNIMORTANT things in the religions are the things that start wars...example...no my god is the real god..no mine is....its not important which god is the real god or if the wine is actualy blood....whats important are the teachings the religious figures have to offer us...and funky your right on with what i was saying its man who screws it up and makes a big deal about things in religion that are inconsequential to the teachings...

whether or not jesus was the son of god doesn't change any of his teachings...however when people take beliefs like that seriously they can distance themselves from others...when jesus tought acceptance and to love thy neighbor...the beliefs get in the way of the teachings....so thats why i dont put stock in beliefs and choose to listen to the teachings instead...besides when we die we will probably find out the real truth and id rather not commit to anything so i can find out the truth rather than find out i was wrong lol...i do believe in a creator though...can't quite get that beliefe out...its ingrained

and as afterlife ****....i think of this way...imagine everything you can imagine...now try to imagine how much their is we can't imagine...thats what is beyond death to me..the greater infinte unimaginable...different universes with different rules...that we can't even imagine because it doesn't exist in this universe for us to imagine....the idea of something unimaginable never ceases to amaze me...

hehe mmm steak i could go for some...
