Lightbulb religion, God, future, and infinity

alright i got this theory...well not so much a theory but a thought on how and why thigns are what they have the potential to be. first of all i would like to say that if you never set any limits for yourself you can accomplish as much as possible....with that in mind i would like to explain what i think religion is.

when i look at buddhism and christianity i think of them as maps to enlightenment. invented by people who discovered their own enlightenment and wrote it down for any who choose to follow in their footsteps to reach the same level...buddha is a prime example and christ in the same way, just different method. buddha shows us how to reach enlightenment with our mind and christ gives us great lessons on life and how to live it better and more fully...

i think for many many people religion helps and for others it hinders...for example any church that has certain beliefs opens itself to opposition with any other conflicting beliefs so some times people make ideas and personal thoughts more important than the teachings and the lessons which are realy the only thing that matters...my father is a full fledged catholic and believes that jesus was truely the son of god the creator of everything that is and ever will be...one day i presented the question that if jesus christ wasn't actualy the son of god and was just a normal man would it change anything that he did or how it effected the world...it doesn't so beliefs can get in the way sometimes becuase they limit us...

and as for the future i believe we as humanity are gifted in our ability to reason and make decisions to our liking...we have freewill something no other animal has as far as we know...so we have the power to make our future anything we want...in a lifetime we can choose whatever we want to do...and as humanity in general we have the ability to choose to go forward and better ourselves to create a world better than the one before us...

imagine the possibilities for the future...some day if humanity lives long enuf we could learn to travel through time....go to different dimmensions...master genetics and redisign our physical bodies to our liking...we could invent human computer interfacing like that of the matrix and create new worlds for ourselves in cyberspace...we could reach a point in humanity where we are no longer limited by our flesh bodies...we could download ourselves into a custom creation or....i mean its endless

if humanity lived forever we would be able to create an infinite amount of possibilities for ourselves.

and this is where i tie it into religions....imagine if when we die we simply are reincarnated and given another life to do with what we want...if everyone kept doing the best they could with the life they were given every life we would eventualy reach a point in humanity so well developed it could be considered heaven by christians and nirvanna by buddhists...we could reach a point in humanity where our only limit is ourselves...and although that still holds true now their are many things we cannot do due to lack of many things to come not existing yet...

so i think religion gives us a sense of something better and the tools to bring ourselves as a race to those better times..

buddha went out into the world to discover a path that would lead to an existance without the sufferings and imperfections of flesh...and if we live long enuf and well enuf humanity could reach a point where sufferings of the flesh no longer existed...a point in life where humanity is the ancient form of existance bound to one body by lack of technology to change...

so thats my belief...that anything is possible...and that if we all do our best to better ourselves and others we can all reach the goals of religions and ourselves....and that in following the teachings of the buddha or christ or whatever that over time we will end up in a heaven...

just thought id share this peice of thought...becuase i used to think that if you lead a good life you are rewarded by god with salvation, but i realized that if we do our best that eventual in future lives our good deeds will help us...i meen ok imagine your some person that gave some kid money to go to college and fullfill a dream of becoming a docter or somethin...so one day you might die then be reborn as some child with some once thought incurable disease or disorder or somethin, but because a certain person was able to go to college becuase of the generosity of your former self your new self has a chance at a new life that had you not done that good deed you would not have a chance at a new life becuase that person would have never made it to college to fulfill his potential and inventing whatever it is that saves your new self....

so when we do good deeds for others we are doing it for ourselves too...and if you think of all of humanity as god...then when your clothing the naked, visiting the imprisoned, feeding the hungry, sheltering the unsheltered...we are sheltering everyone and ourselves...becuase good deeds have a snowball effect...and if we keep goin and going things will just get better and better and better forever and ever and ever as long as we allow it too...and maybe if we **** up it just all starts over again and maybe we just keep living the same moments in our lives over and over again untill we get it right (explaining day-ja-vu)

so thats how i think of the future...and no matter how long we exist as individuals or as humanity in general their will always be what we know which is measurable and what we don't know which is limitless...

i meen just imagine everything you know now and then compare it to everything you don't know....its like measuring an atom against all of the matter in the universe...and infact bigger than that....

just wanted to share this...the infinite possibilites of infinity never cease to amaze me...

--just wanted to add another interesting view on things...if you think about it the only reason anybody ever does anything negative towards humanity or anything else is becuase lack of empathy...but imagine if we lived in a world where we were able to completely and fully understand eachother for exactly what we mean...no one would ever be missunderstood and nothing negative would ever arise out of what always is a missunderstanding...no one would ever commit a single evil act again if they were able to feel how everyone else in existance would be impacted by their action...that is why evil is evil...becuase evil is self destructive...becuase when we do something wrongful against others in the long run we are doing it to ourselves...just another interesting insight...in done for good now

Well said. Right now we are being reincarnated. Deeds will lead us forward: we learn from the bad, and progress from the good. Humanity and everything around it (or everything and humanity around it...don't wish to sound racially elitist) can only progress. Everyhing can only progress. We will build and build and build, and learn from something that goes wrong. Sorry if I repeated what you just said.

or how about this:

some higher force in whatever shape or form it may take created humanity as a great confusionary device, a bit like sticking a rat in a maze and timing how long the poor thing takes to get something it needs - be it food in this case.

so along comes this grand being and creates humans for the sole purpose of f*cking with their heads. let's make a species that will live in utter confusion for their whole life as to what life is actually about! eureka, the perfect game! and when these beings no longer play the game correctly, let's just craft a tragedy or two and wipe them off of the board.

anyone who thinks theyve got it figured out should be reconfigured.

do you figure?

if you think thats scary, look up at the stars and realize you are looking at basicly an infinite amount of space. i've had a panic attack just doing that

also, i remember when i was in kindergarden (i went to a christion school and was a christian then. not one now) and i started to think about death, and first i was thinking, well when i die i will go to heven or hell. then i thought that maybe the bible was wrong and when i die, i will just stop being. and i started to ponder on that, and it blew my fragile mind up

i think its more frightening to not be than being in "everlasting love" forever.

i was a messed up kid
