Lightbulb Some thoughts on or "creator"

This is my first post here and I extremely enjoy reading everyones theories and ideas etc.. on just about anthing. I'm glad I finally found a place where eveyone seems to be very opened minded.

I'm 20yrs old and since I was a little boy I was brought up as a catholic. My parents are from old mexican traditions. Mainly my mom who is into the religion. And it wasn't until about a couple of years ago after I graduated from highschool that I was having trouble on who I was and wanted to be. I just started thinking about things ya know and I kinda isolated myself because the more and more that I felt I was developing into a well..a more intelligent person I found the people around me who just cared about partying etc etc.. as boring an really having no meaning in my life. Not that I became a dick I just didn't want to hang around midless drones like that. Waste of my time. (sorry for the rambling on)
Anyhow, I slowly began questioning my religion and this whole "God" subject. More and more I stopped accepting the things the way they were and started thinking more on my on and asking questions etc etc.. For most of you here that are skeptical about ALOT!! of religious things I am totally with you....as for the athiest....I don't understand. I mean if you don't believe in God and all the stuff that comes with it...that's cool with me.....BUT, since being an athiest. How is it possible for you not to think that there is a "CREATOR". As the religious drones here on earth they call him/her/it...."God". There has to be a creator. If you don't want to look at him/her/it as the way religion drills in your head that he is some hippy guy in sandals in a robe then fine...don't......but there has to be a creator. There is no other way around it.

And another thing. Catholics and other religions bable in there churches on how there is only one God etc etc. I think they are full of crap. In there religoius world....it is impossible for there to be only or ever been ONE God. How you ask?? Well, think about this way. WHO CREATED GOD????? If the preachers say "well he is infinite etc etc.." That is impossible. That can't be. Even a super human being can't just come from nowhere!! The # of God's is infinite to be more exact. It's impossible for something to just kinda "pop" into the universe. you know what I mean. And even if a certaing "God" appeared right in front of you. He/she/it must have come from somewhere and was created by someone else. It will always be.....there is God, who created God, who created God, who created God etc etc etc.. .it keeps going. Any how this is one of things I come to terms with.

Feel free to reply and just say what you feel.

I enjoyed reading your views on religion, heres what i think.
I think their is one God, but the supremely wise and intelligent being that he/she/it may be thought that the millions of people inhabiting the earth all arent gonna believe one singular religion, thus sending many religions to earth for us to choose from eg:buddhist, chrisian, etc etc and what we follow is our choose. Kinda like music its all beats, rhythms etc, but theres so many different kinds out there, we pick what suits us or what we prefer best. And everyone is entitled to their own preference. Personally, i dont mind what religion people follow, as long as their nice people, have respect for their fellow man, help people out, take less but give more kinda thing, its all good with me. The afterlife, well i dunno, im not to worried about dat at da mo......ill find out when i get there. Feel free to mail me dude.

i was in your shoes about 5 years ago. my dad was never really religious, but my mom came from a small town in east texas where the conservative baptists flourish. she's not that hardcore, but still has strong beliefs about christianity and attends church weekly. as a child i was always "forced" to go to sunday school which i remember hating from the very first time. none of it made sense to me and i was always (and still am, to an extent) confused about it. i still don't understand why there have to be so many denominations if there's ultimately one god.

so as i got older i got to the age where i could make my own choices and my first choice was to not attend church anymore. i have a problem with church not only because of my disagreements with the sermons, but because it looks like everyone else there is a robot. it looks like they go because they feel they have to out of fear from their god or something like that. they all stand up and chant their lines out of the bible and for some reason it always made me feel dizzy. it seems fake to me. now on a tangent: i'm not trying to bash anyone's religion so don't take it that way. i respect every religion out there because no matter what you believe in, a person's faith has deep roots and it's disrespectful to try to take that from them.

i began looking into other religions and philosophies to see what struck my chord and i didn't feel at peace with myself until i came across taoism. it's an ancient eastern religion that came into being around the same time as confuscism (sp?). it doesn't personify a deity like other religions, but rather structures itself around the concept of harmony and nature. in fact, it's more of a way of living your life to your choosing because instead of having rules and statements like the bible, it poses questions and philosophies that only you can answer for yourself. so that's where i am right now, even if my mom doesn't like it. so i say go find your place wherever it may be because whenever you find your groove, there's nothing like it.

here's a quick side-story: last year i had a part time job doing research for a professor at my college and before i had to go in, i was eating some lunch and reading the university's newspaper by myself at the university center. it's a building where they have banquet halls and restraunts and an arcade, etc for students to go to to kill time. so i'm sitting there perfectly contempt eating my lunch when i see these two people walk up to my table out of the corner of my eye. i put the paper down as they stand next to my table and say, "can i help you with something?" they ask if they can join me and as wierded out as i was i said sure. they sit down, a boy and a girl who look like they attend the university as well, but then proceed to ask me about my religious beliefs. i tell them i enjoy reading the philosophies of lao tzu (he wrote the tao te ching back in the BC which is the book of philosophies taoists follow...sort of like their bible but i don't like calling it that). well they proceed to question my integrity as a human being and basically call me a heathen. the girl gets quit but i can tell it's not because she has nothing to say, it's because she's furious that i'm not like them. they asked me questions like, "have you tried christianity? what about christianity did you not like? etc etc.." i remained very polite with my answers even though they were blatantly rude to me and tell them that it's just not for me and i'm happy with where i'm at now. i then ask them, "how are they so sure that christianity is the ONE religion that people should follow? and what are you supposed to tell all the other people out there who've followed religions that are much older than christianity?" and the guy answered that that's how it's always been and always will be. he said there's a heaven and a hell and if you don't believe in God then you're going to hell. i said, "well my religion doesn't have a heaven or hell." but they said i was going to hell anyway. that's when i got upset and ripped into them only to have the girl scream, "i hope you come around before you die because if you don't you'll burn forever in damnation!" that's when i got up and left and told them to have a nice day. i think they were part of a cult trying to get followers, but i didn't buy into it. anyway, that's my story. i just don't understand why people have to be so disrespectful and rude like that...

I think we're too smart for our own good, but we lack the ablity to think outside of our reality because thats all we have. I sort of agree with you but, God is infinite, its hard to understand...and what people have to realize is that our miniscule brains can't understand infinity, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

I completely agree with what all of you. I think these religion extremists should keep it to themselves instead they treat it as a multil level marketing scheme to recruit as many people as possible.

My thing is this. People can choose to believe in whatever they want. I really don't care. If whatever they believe in HELPS them become a better person in our society then thats great. But when you have these idiot's in the east and other places who seem to take "though shalt not kill" as "negotiable" the more deeply involved they become. I completely agree with you Hensonic_boom on how ALOT of people are scared to think for themselves and are basically afraid of God. Eventhen...I don't understand why you should be afraid of God. WHy?? Isn't God supposed to be all loving and caring??? Why do these people say that you should fear God. I am slowly finding my own "religion" if you want to call it that. I don't really like to use that word. As for now if someone asks what religion I am I'll just say Catholic. Just do I can save a lot of time (wasted time) discussing with someone and explaining WHY I don't do this or that, or go to church. Any how. Gotta go. Damn homework!!

P.S- Thanks for the replys. It's really cool to hear other people talk about the subject or anything for that matter in a cool and calm manner. Cause some of these people out here(away from the computer) are pretty crazy. T

Great thread you guys

Welcom to the board and please help yourself to some cookies

Don't be surprised if this thread gets bumped over to a different heading "Spiritual Aspects" by another Moderator... It will remain untouched otherwise. It's a matter of allowing for easier searches on subjects such as these later on.

I feel a person has to find there own peace with god. Its my beleive that most people are turned off from christianity because of the intolerent nature and holier then thou attitude of these so called "christians". Between my grandmothers husband and living in Jerry Falwells town I've only see the negative side of religion. I thought if these are christians, then I don't want to have anything to do with these people.People who beleive either you believe in Jesus or you go to hell, my question to all these people or what about all the humans who never had a chance to know about Jesus are they in hell too? And I never received a response.
I've read the bible and feel you can learn many importent things about compassion, tolerence, love for your fellow man. But the church has distorted gods message about peace and love into one hate and intolerence.
Naturalhi3 why must God have been created? My own thoghts on the matter is that god just IS. I like to look at it that the entire universe is inside gods head.

i think if their is some creator with a purpose for us maybe the creator is raising us to be gods of our own one day...i mean with all the lessons to be learned in life seems possible...that would be pretty kewl to have the power to creat universes with rules decided by you and life and then possess some life form and just live thru all your different creations

i jst beleive that there is a God a creator. I don't believe in the way religions make him/her/it to be out.
what i believe as well is that so many religions say so many different things that how do u know what religion tyo beleive. i also believe that religion resembles a cult if you read the signs that somethings a cult

i also think that some religions scare people in believeing in jesus. they basically say that if you don't believ in jesus no matter how good you are you will go to hell. even if u were mother teresa you would still go to hell. people will just believe so they don't go to hell. my sister belives in that and lectures me 2 believe in jesus. how annoying
