I am a practicing Christian and I just read your Bible verses. Although it does not pertain to the use of mind alterring substances, I think the message would be the same. I also see nothing to support the repression of marijuana in those times. Marijuana being an "evil" substance is relatively new. In many religions, the religous elders used mind alterring substances to commune with spirits. Some of those substances were much stronger than marijuana. The "spirit world" is relatively inaccessible to most of us. Maybe a little marijuana is what is needed to open our minds to "hear the spirits". As far as the Bible being archaic: On the contrary, it written for all times. It's the history of God revealing himself to humankind. It is a moral guide that will not expire until the day the final revelation has occurred.

| im on the fence about if it is against my faith (im a christian) but i think if it is used in moderation it isn't wrong, becuase alcohol can kill you if used excessivley. i dont htink mj can very easily do that. and jesus did drink wine. im kind of conflicted about this. but as long as i dont hurt myself or anyone else while using it. then its not bad. but the law of man thing is confusing. i think the fact htat it is on hte black market mkaes ir more of a danger to others because of the police/dealer thigns and the overal violence that goes on behing the scenes. as soo as i get a good place, ill grow it myself so that noone will get hurt by my sole use. that way i think i ll be ok. and no i dont condem marijuana use. most of hte other off topic duigs i dont approve of just becase there nature. but i dont think hebr is a drug hte way alcohol or tobacco is. i quit smokin tobacco about 6 months after i started because i figured out (arn't i bright ) that it is harmful. lol peace

If a drug can kill you, isn't the reason it should be right or wrong. The way it's used is the determining factor of right or wrong, healthy or unhealthy. While being high or drunk can be a useful stress reliever, it can become uncontrolable. It is a fine line we walk. It helps us get through the day, but it can control us if it goes too far. Thats where te "evil" of the drugs comes in. It's not evil in itself, but the result can be destructive. It should be an outlet, not a lifestyle. To my knowledge, Jesus never mentioned the consumption of alcohol, or the use of marijuana. In think maybe He understood that life can be hard; sometimes you need a drink or a puff or two. Jesus understood the working man. He was a carpenter by trade. He probably had a good twenty years expirience. Times haven't changed that much. After work, you go get a beer, maybe a toke. Feel good for a little while before you have to wake up and do it all over again. Maybe that's why He never mentioned it. Maybe, it's a gift. Beats, you are right. The violence does come from prohibition. We all know, a true pot-head would never kill someone over money or drugs. No, those are plain and simple criminals. When one gets high, we all know he aint gonna hurt a fly (unless he gets in a car). The violence comes in when you involve criminals. If prohibition were ended, the gangsters and terrorists would no longer be an issue. It is very responsible of you to "grow your own." Don't give the gangsters your money.

Yeah... I'm a Christian. I think that could apply to weed... and also, Romans 14 is interesting too, and might also apply. I don't smoke weed personally, but I don't think people should ever be prosecuted or looked down on for doing so.

I read the verses, and as a Christian, my interpretations are that I think Jesus meant of the cleansing of the heart and soul. Jesus noticed that they ate without praying to God, without thanking him for the blessings(which all Christians do before they eat). When they didn't pray, the disciples questioned Jesus why they would have to keep repeating the ritual before a meal, and Jesus replied that it is the cleansing of your soul before you humbly partake in God's blessing. They also kept referring to the "hands" of the unclean people, and often times when praying, the hands are a symbol of the connection you have in your heart with the lord. In verses 20-23, Jesus only mensions the world of humans to compare to the spiritual world, how you should seperate your lives between the barbaric styles of humans, and live more like God. I dunno, just a thought.

I'm a smoker (of course) and a Christian and those verses just show that everything was created for our consumption. FYI: Christ means to be annointed by cannabis oil. Also, it was believed that the Romans gave Christ cannabis before (or while, I forget) he went on the cross.
