Lightbulb Christian smokers or antismoker Christians

Today while reading my bible I came across a passage that I thought all smokers should read. Mark 7:1-23. I was just wondering if anyone else thought this passage might apply somewhat to marijuana and the war on marijuana. Basically, what do the Christian smokers think of it. I also want to know what Christians that condemn smoking would think about it. If anyone knows a Christian that persecutes you I would appreciate if you would ask them and let me know their response.
You have to read the whole passage (takes only two or three minutes) to understand it, but basically I think that it makes two important points:
(Mark 7:8) I think that the prohibition laws are "traditions of men".
(Mark 7:17-19) Could this apply?
I'm not saying this does apply. I just feel that it might.

the bible isn't going to mean one thing and nothing else. i really doubt the bible would have any relavence to anything today, but thats just my opinion.

also, you should type the passages on to this thread, not every one has a bible or will be motavated to look it up

I am sorry about your opinion and all, but I was asking about these bible verses. Perhaps I miss-phrased the question. What I meant to say was:

Today while reading my bible I came across a passage that I thought all smokers should read. Mark 7:1-23. I was just wondering if anyone else thought this passage might apply somewhat to marijuana and the war on marijuana. Basically, what do the Christian smokers think of it. yeah. but a quick note. i used to be christian, and one time i read a passage about herbs. it said something like, "and god made plants, animals, and herbs." and some stuff later in the new testiment about how all herbs were good. and weeds an herb. and they used to drink alcohol in the bible, even jesus did. thats a substance to alter mentality. so dont u think that weed is similar? i read an article once about how jesus mightve been an occasional pot smoker.

How can you say the bible has no relevance to today? Shakespeare wrote his master pieces hundreds and hundreds of years ago and they are still very relevant to conflicts in today's society.

what i mean is you shouldn't change your opinion/beliefs/ideas by anything the bible says.

the only reason some of shakespeare work is still dealing with issues today is because they deal with emotions (i don't know much about shakespeares' work. so i could be wrong about that)

the bible should help you in your life, not tell you what to do, like it has come to be.

I am a Christian, and I smoke cigarettes and pot.

Although I'm not a practicing Christian, I do think that there are several verses that support the use of marijuana. Cigarettes, on the other hand, I have a harder time justifying. I'm trying to quit.

And I do think that Jesus used cannabis, and I think that God created cannabis for our enjoyment, althoug I think He created it with the intentions of eating it rather than smoking it.

Thank you silent-bob for your last line in reminding some of us that.
Guest, I have read the passage. Though I am not a Christian in the sense I understand Christianity, I do love Christ so I shall respond...As you know, the passage refers to taking in food, which is a neccesity for our survival. Depending on the person, one could regard MJ in the same matter. The bottom line is if we apply this to whatever we may intake, be it coke, liquor/beer, heroine, household cleaning products, whatever - It would apply because based on what is written, it's what we release that has the weight, not what we intake. How do we act once we consume whatever? Does MJ affect how you come off to another in a negative way? For some it does and therefore make it unclean because of what comes out. Also, as far as "the traditions of men" that Jesus referred to was directed to the Pharisees and the teachers of the law. Taking that, would smoking be considered a tradition or a personal chioce? Sure, there are laws against certain "drug" use, but I think we need to take under consideration why the government chooses to regulate one drug and not another. I believe Jesus was aware of the inconsistencies of law making by man.
The absolute line can be to use your inner guide (Holy Spirit as referred to by Christians) to guide you in what is unclean and what isn't for you. The Bible is a tool, one of many place here for some. The inner guide / gut feeling / intuitition is applicable to all and at all times.
