Science in the broadest sense is the methodical process by which we acquire knowledge. In this sense, no: science is not comparable to religion. It offers nothing as knowledge which isn`t directly observable.

| Well, according to Soren Kierkegaard, a Danish Philosopher, God is the unknown. Since it is so utterly and completely unknowable, it is useless to tell someone how they might find God Also that only through the acceptance that you can never know the unknown, will you be open to it. Kind of circular logic, there, but supposedly if you do that you can have an epiphany. I haven't gotten there yet, but maybe apathy isn't the same as acceptance. |

| Rule number: 1) Knowing your God is your journey, 2) No one else can give you the direction you need. 3) Only you can search and only you can find. Hint, look deep within, but don't forget rule number 2 above... ![]() Oh, and the higher you are, the more likely you are to encounter the "Most High". (er, that epiphany you seek) Wayne Dwyer is fond of saying, "You will see it when you believe it". Peace and Love

| Both of you assume that the atheist in question was always an atheist and never a believer. Or that one cannot experience a so-called "religious experience" without religion in the first place, e.g. meditation can induce some pretty intense feelings and states that a religious person might consider god, but a non-believer would simply call "what the body does anyways." Different names for the same things. Or there are countless stories of born-agains or those who found god who "felt his prescence" that led to them believing. So yes, an atheist can know and experience god.
