Me neither.

I like having the weight of responsiblity. Knowing that people make bad choices, and others make good. I like to be the latter, and try to better myself, help and benefit from others, not take advantage or hurt them.

Even if I was a mindless robot programmed only to 'do good', life would be dull. There wouldn't be any meaning to exist, because you couldn't help others (everyone is already good), you couldn't set an example to follow (everyone is already good), and as everyone knows, 'for good to exist, evil must as well' so well, yeah.....

Like the saying goes, be the change you want to see in the world.

A message from God to Spiral: "Well said good and faithful servant" ~God

It would be boring. Nothing like a challenge to keep the life juices flowing.

Well I don't really believe in "God" per se... I think organized religion is 'the easy way' to find God, and a lot of times you don't even do that, you just fool yourself. I think "God" is personal, and he is within each and everyone of us, you just have to look hard enough.

I know their is something spiritual out there. I know that their is more than this physical realm. So I simply make the best of the life I live, or try to at least.. I just want to say at the end of it "I've done good, I've lived a good life, and I've bettered others. "

"This is my simple religion. There is no need for temples; no need for complicated philosophy. Our own brain, our own heart is our temple; the philosophy is kindness."

I guess it would be a start for some. I would rather they just did their own personal Bible study and had their own relationship, instead of having the minister, preacher, priest's relationship.

I like that and also agree with it.

I have met some people and looked hard and I am still looking. No sign of God, no sign of a drive of any kind, hardly a sign of life.
A waste of good skin.

First off. Just because your Atheist DOES NOT mean you believe in the big bang theory, although to me it makes a hell of a lot more sense than having a belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree. that makes so much more sense, right?

well i definitely believe that organized religion is nothing but balgonie. It's just a bunch of lies strung together into a book that they themselves deemed gods word

Man, since you put it that way, jeeze, well, I just have to say that is the most succinct eloquent way of putting the story of Genesis I have ever seen, and in the light of your perspective, it does seem awfully absurd...

That really is beautiful man. And I am being sincere.

I don't want to get heavily invested in this thread. It was a long thread, it goes the same way most of these things do... so eh. But I do have one question.

Supposedly, the fruit Adam and Eve ate was from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, and before they ate the fruit, they did not know good and evil. The whole bit of hiding in shame from god afterwards was because they realized their nakedness, which up to that point was fine, was "sinful." All this time, in ignorance, they had been sinning, and god didn't give a shit. So, when they ate the fruit, not knowing good and evil, the didn't know disobeying god was evil. How could they? That sin was still in ignorance. To be internally consistent, god should not have punished them. But he did.

And 1toke, why you still asking for proof that god doesn't exist? You gotta know by know that it is literally impossible to prove a negative... that's why burden of proof is on the people making a positive claim.

And why do threads like these tend to be so two dimensional? What about all the other religions in the world? Why is your god right? Why is the definition of god necessarily omnipotent and omniscient? Zeus was a god, and he was neither.

I just don't get it.

I'll take a quick stab at some of this.

When Jesus was hanging on the cross, a soldier pierced him with a spear. Jesus hollered to pop to forgive the man for he knew not what he did.

Apparently God has some extra compassion for the ignorant. This of course is not the common understanding being preached.

In the case of Adam and Eve, God had told them, so they weren't truly ignorant. The Snake used God's own words to tempt ones own desire for greatness. In some Gnostic stories, Christ is actually the snake, God is actually Satan, and the most high God is above them all.

On the proof issue, it is impossible to state either "there is a God", or "there is not a God" and have any proof. I don't really see where the onus rests upon anyone to provide any proof either way, since all we are really talking about are opinions.

I think they are two dimensional because there aren't many other people of other religions hanging around. The other religions we might be discussing are also practiced with more tolerance and restraint than most Christians are able to muster given the nature of their modern teachers telling them they are right at all costs.

In the end all we can truly do is forgive everyone their ignorance and just enjoy life.

Peace and Love

First off, I think you got a little "invested" in this thread. You said you have "one question" and actually asked six. Oh...what the hell. I will give it a shot too.

Logos already answered this but I will say I agree with him. He (God) told them.

What if the person "positively claims" He doesn't exist?

I don't think they are. Someone always brings up something else like you did with Zues.

Why is your god right?
Because the Bible I read says that He is.

Why is the definition of god necessarily omnipotent and omniscient?
Same answer. Because my Bible I read says He is. Not all gods are. Just my God.
Quote:
Zeus was a god, and he was neither.
You said he was a god. I didn't. I don't believe he was a god. I don't believe in Greek Mythology. It did make a good movie though to watch when I was a kid.

I just don't get it.
Because you don't believe. Someday you may believe by faith the Bible that I have read and remember this post and say "know I get it".

In closing I will say to you and all who read this:
I don't really care what you believe or if you believe. Seriously. It's your choice. Do what you want to do. If it makes you happy and gives you comfort then by all means do it.

she heard that, and no matter my protestations, she just shook her pretty head and bolted;
