| Okay well the old testament was the best law they could come up with at the time. The only rules that were truly inspired by God was the 10 commandments. About number 3, Jesus gets ridiculed for healing someone on the sabbath. A religious Jew tells him that he can't do that. Jesus tells him they are hypocrites, by telling them (paraphrasing) that even shepards must pull out a lamb if it is in a ditch. Or will he not take him out out because it is the sabbath? I'll find the exact passage soon. And I will post with the verse tomorrow. | |

| Basically I agree with you. Reason and common sense should always prevail. There is a lot of good in the bible and it has helped many people in difficult times. Unfortuneately, some use it as a weapon to inflict their views on others. If you believe in the innate goodness of mankind (as I do), then decent caring people will always come up with the right solution to any moral dilema. When someone says they are right and we are wrong because it says so in the bible, they have given us the right to use the bible against them. I don't mean to knock the book, it's just that millions of people have been hurt and killed by people using the bible as an excuse for their own ends. The Devil is at his most dangerous when he wears respectable clothes. |

| The thing is with the O/T is that we are not living in those days anymore so if someone comes to me and says they are going to kill every one in a city because God told them it was ok I wouldn't be so sure. We live in the N/T peroid which is the grace period, The Bible is true that in those days that how things were done not that i'd want it to be like that today but back then that's how it was, that was the Law. it's also like the sacrificing of animals, today if someone did those things here they'd be put to jail but then it was the way, I really thank God that I don't have to go and kill animals to be forgiven of sins, we can just ask and beleive that we're forgiven because of what Jesus did for us at calvary. It is true that some people use the bible for wrong ex: Col 3:18Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord. 19Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them. The King James Version, (Cambridge: Cambridge) 1769. or Eph 5:22Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. 23For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: The King James Version, (Cambridge: Cambridge) 1769. Certain men can take this passage a little bit wrongfully, take Col 3:18 if you don't read the whole verse you can say "well wife you've got to submit to me no matter what" but the rest says "as it is fit in the Lord" then there is verse 19 which talks to the husband. The same can be said in the other example. So there can be alot of harm done if someone doesn't put the verses they apply to their lives in context or if they only extract the part that fits what they want to beleive. Right! So we need to be careful of what we hear about the bible, better to make sure and go read the passages for ourselves and to read around it to make sure you get the context of the verse. I could continue but it would make this post a little too long so i'll stop for now. Later! Robb | |

| bonghits4christ said "Jesus gets ridiculed for healing someone on the sabbath. A religious Jew tells him that he can't do that." Have you found that reference yet. I am very interested as the response is so strongly opposed by Jewish Talmudic law. The saving of a soul comes before all else. As Rabbi Hillel (of blessed memory) said: He who saves a soul saves a Universe (approx 250 BCE) Behemoth, or more closely pronounced "b'hemot", is a Hebrew word meaning: the general class of all larger curd chewing animals of indeterminate hoof formation other than cow/ox. There is no identical translation in English as there is no need to create this sort of category in the a non-Jewish anthropological setting. The separation is necessary in this instance as a cow/ox is a kosher or "clean for purposes of sacrifice and eating" herbivore, whereas a horse, giraffe, hippo or elephant would not be kashruth, a kosher animal for these purposes. Remember these dichotomies were created as laws by man thousands of years before "modern" times when the KJV was published. The KJV is therefore limited as to its interpretation of certain words and meanings and liberties were taken to create a poetic style that was popular during the era in which it was published. I always reccomend going back to the earliest source on everything and working forward. My one exception to that rule is science...where I start at the present and work backwards. If your Aramaic and Ancient Hebrew isn't as good as Papa Budz is ... and I know mine aint...I would reccomend getting a copy of the English translation of the Tenakh the First Five Books of the Original Testament from the Soncino Publishing company. The Soncino family was provided permission by the Vatican to publish the first copy of the Tenakh as it appeared in its earliest extant version and the transllations are the closest I've found to the orignal Hebrew and Aramaic. In addition a copy of the exact version of the first five books...down to number of letters per line and spaces between letters...can be found in every synagogue in the world in its Torah. IN fact when the Torah is read, the reader is directed by the ceremony of the reading to raise the torah above his head and turn around so that the congregants can see for themselves that what is being read is the actual Torah portion. The proof of the writing is in the testing... And here it is: an early version of Isiah was discovered in an archeological dig in the late 70's . The scroll they uncovered has been dated at approximately the destruction of the second Temple in Jerusalem (approxmately 77 A.C.E/A.D. ). When compared to Isiah as it appears in the Torah today, it is identical...down to the letter and the spacing. I feel that education is important for us to all understand where we are all coming from...and to understand towards what we are all heading...Peace Mama Budz * I Toke & I Vote * | |

| I think Bonghits might be reffering to these verses, Matt12:2But when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto him, Behold, thy disciples do that which is not lawful to do upon the sabbath day. 3But he said unto them, Have ye not read what David did, when he was an hungred, and they that were with him; 4How he entered into the house of God, and did eat the shewbread, which was not lawful for him to eat, neither for them which were with him, but only for the priests? 5Or have ye not read in the law, how that on the sabbath days the priests in the temple profane the sabbath, and are blameless? 6But I say unto you, That in this place is one greater than the temple. 7But if ye had known what this meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice, ye would not have condemned the guiltless. 8For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day. 9And when he was departed thence, he went into their synagogue: 10And, behold, there was a man which had his hand withered. And they asked him, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath days? that they might accuse him. 11And he said unto them, What man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out? 12How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days. 13Then saith he to the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it forth; and it was restored whole, like as the other. The King James Version, (Cambridge: Cambridge) 1769. Your probably right I would love to be able to read or understan the Hebrew writings but man is it ever different, its like chinese to me. I would like to get my hands on a Hebrew O/T and Greek N/T bibles translated word for word. I had found on the net a program that is made by Walter kenaston who has the first chapter of Genesis translated that way and it's still hard to understand but you can still get the Idea of what it's saying. But don't you think that is well translated enough that the plan of salvation which is the most important can still be applied to our lives, The Blood of Jesus is still the Blood of Jesus in Greek, English, or any other language we can think of. Right Later man, Robb | |

| I can't find the chptr and verse from the O/T on which this is referring: "Have ye not read what David did, when he was an hungred, and they that were with him; 4How he entered into the house of God, and did eat the shewbread" But it is absolutely lawful to heal on the Sabbath day as the saving of a life (although that is not an exact translation of the Hebrew word pronounced "nephish") takes precedence over any other law.
