Post faith as a virus?

I found this video by Richard Dawkins that interprets religion as a type of social virus that affects a lot of people including their future offsprings. As an atheist I found the video to be a bit abrupt for religious people. I know he is trying to get his point that religion is not good but his interviews are a bit harsh. Anyways, watch it and judge it for yourself.

Richard Dawkins - The Virus Of Faith
once again I am impressed by Dawkins' ability to make his stance so irretrievably antagonistic, so that his only audience is likeminded atheists.

I have his book, The God Delusion, and I treat it like the gospel. But as always he speaks so callously that he immediately betrays any possibility to rouse the doubts of devoted theists...

He's the only extreme atheist on the planet, as far as I can tell. I also worship my copy of The God Delusion - fantastic book. Theres a million Christians who spout off equivalent emotion regarding the issue. I've found that most people have made up their minds anyway. In the Richard Dawkins/John Lennox debate, both sides offered solid arguments and evidence, but of all the people I talked to about it, it didn't change any minds.

Yeah, that's what I was talking about. If I was a religious person and had an open mind about other explanation to life, I will get very offended by some of the things that he says. He should chill when he talks about his shit. Maybe smoke a blunt from time to time.

Yall need to sell me on The God Delusion. Is it interesting all throughout? I am spiritual, and my buddy is always trying to get me to read this.

I found it interesting, for the most part. Some parts of it (first few chapters, I find) are a bit obvious and provide tired arguments.

I actually had to put it down after 60 pages or so the first time, thinking it was all the same stuff I already knew.

He gets into more specific arguments as it goes along, and is worth reading in my opinion, if for no reason than to acquaint yourself with some of the dialogue of the God Question.

I just took the time to watch the video the whole way through, and I found that his attitude got a lot better by the end!

I'd recommend anybody watch the last 5 or so minutes where he talks about how Atheism can be more uplifting than Religion. I don't necessarily agree completely, but he makes a good point of it...

im a christian so thats were my point of view is coming from, well personaly what he does is just slam all relgions and put them in the exact same catagory, christians dont belive in jihad or anything like that, neither does budism, most muslims, jews, ect. but he paints it like we are all willing to kill for our religion, we are more likely to killfor our country than our religion so why is he painting it like we are corrupting the world when we preach against theft, violence, or other wrong doing....well in his next one he should include that the american governements laws that he lives buy was based on the christian ideals

sorry if its hardto read my computers keyboard is acting up

well I think he's putting them all in the same category because they can work against progressive attitudes towards social justice.

he's arguing that humans are perfectly capable of making our own moral guidelines without religion; morever, religion can impede the natural evolution of social justice by preventing us from accepting and adopting new concepts of equality, because they are against the written word of some ancient script.
