Since Wikipedia is such a popular source of information, I'll use it to answer this question.

Spiritual use of cannabis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

more specifically...

Quote:
Ancient Hebraic use

According to some scholars, [3] cannabis was an ingredient of holy anointing oil mentioned in various sacred Hebrew texts. The herb of interest is most commonly known as kanah-bosim (קְנֵה-בֹשֶׂם) (the singular form of which would be kanah-bos[4]) which is mentioned several times in the Old Testament as a bartering material, incense, and an ingredient in holy anointing oil used by the high priest of the temple.

The Septuagint (300AD) translates kanah-bosim as calamus, and this translation has been propagated unchanged to most later translations of the Torah (1500BC+). However, Polish anthropologist Sula Benet published etymological arguments that the Aramaic word for hemp can be read as kannabos and appears to be a cognate to the modern word 'cannabis',[5] with the root kan meaning reed or hemp and bosm meaning fragrant. Both cannabis and calamus are fragrant, reedlike plants containing psychotropic compounds.

In more modern times, people such as myself consider cannabis an agent of enlightenment. Or in laymen terms, sacrament. (your mileage may vary)

However, if Cannabis is the active ingredient in the holy anointing oil, then wouldn't that make Christ (Christos=anointed one) a user of the substance? (or am I offending Christians by even suggesting such a thing?)

At any rate, another sweet find Hashishi, you are on a roll lately...

I smoke weed ritually. Just because I don't believe in an invisible man in the sky while I do it doesn't mean I shouldn't be accommodated.

I don't know whose standards of "should" or "shouldn't" you're talking about, but in the real world of US law, the only religious use of controlled substances is allowed by the American Indian Religious Freedom Act. That is how Native Americans are allowed the use of peyote and other psychedelic agents. Pot smokers need not apply.
