Describing any group of people in a uniform way is almost always incorrect.

You are absolutely right about this, and as I pointed out in a previous post I was proved wrong about my initial statement. Atheists can in fact be close-minded.

Find me an atheist who insists that God doesn't exist, and I'll find you a jackass of stupendous magnitude.

I think the reason why so many atheists come off as adamant about the non-existence of God, is because they're constantly frustrated by people who choose to believe in God for "no good reason" (as the atheist might see it)

I used to be really bothered by the rampant, illogical and shameless theism around me, and then about a year ago I realized that it wasn't my responsibility to get mad at people for the way they choose to live their lives.

(read: I chilled the f*ck out and decided to deal with my own sh*t rather than hassling people for theirs)

It's possible. But it's also possible that 95% of the people in the world are desperate to grab ahold of any shred of hope that promises them something more than their miserable lives here. It's possible that 95% of the people in the world can't bear to think of death and would rather believe concocted stories that promise immortality. It's possible that the human mind behaves in a fairly predictable fashion, and that the majority of people can be brainwashed without too much difficulty. It's also possible that 95% of the people in the world have lost their fuckin' minds. Those are all just possibilities.

Is it closed-minded to not believe in Poseidon and Thor? Or is it blindingly obvious that Poseidon and Thor are legends, no more real than childrens' bedtime stories?

The closed-minded ones are the creationists. They are unable to open their eyes to overwhelming mountains of evidence in favor of evolution, and instead maintain their belief in something for which there is no evidence.

Athieism is a belief in its own. I'm agnostic but cloer to leaning towards atheism, I just find it hard to believe in something that is MAN made. god is man made, because at one point in time, when man could start speaking and making a language, a human called this greater being a god. But how can sometihng exist that you've never seen, heard, touched, smelled, sensed. When you die, your brain and other vital organs shut down, and you decompose. You become one with the earth.

I have studied and read about many religions. I have been pretty much independant from parents/ any sort of guiding direction since I was 16. Having that said, I have always looked for something to give me direction, and i thought religion might be it. After studying the major religions, and being a research scientist I have come to my own conclusions about religion and religious people.

The blunt starts here, if you are religous or easily offended, please, just stop reading.

1) I have come to the determination the religious people are weak minded. People turn to religion because they cannot cope with life, lack direction and cannot figure it out for themselves and most prevalently cannot handle the vast black silence of death. Every great scientist has proven that Earth/ Life/ Us, is not special. Life happens other places and at other times, our conscious mind is nothing special and when we die, we die... thats it. The weak minded cannot handle this, and must believe in a heaven/ hell. TO each his own.

2) Religion is a way for the corrupt to feel better about themselves, and repent (not a bad idea). A major theme in all religions is reincarnation, and I believe this is what they were aiming at... not reincarnation as in a whole new life span. But reincarnation as, one can accept religion and is given a blank slate.

Me personally, I am an atheist. I study DNA and the molecules of life on an every day basis. I am a concrete facts/ mathmatical person. Once someone can physically prove there is a god, I WILL believe it.
