Default Marijuana as a spiritual aid?

I was an atheist, and then I started smoking pot. It expanded my perspective and mind, and now I believe that there's some sort of higher being or power. Smoking marijuana is an intensely spiritual experience-it makes you forget humanities foolish social garbage and allows those who find it to see the world as it is. When you sober up, the discovery is gone but that knowledge is still there.

When I'm smoking, it seems incredibly illogical to me that there should be no higher power. The world is too astonishing, some things are just too coincidental.

Am I crazy?

Or does anyone understand what I'm attempting to say?

You are not crazy, I have been an atheist for awhile since about 4th grade in 9th now(went to a catholic elementary and middle school) but thinking about it being out in nature, I don't know I do not necessarily believe that Jesus is the one and we go to heaven or hell but I think there is something out there...

Yes.

If you read when you signed up it's 13. Just like every other vB site in the world.

A persons age is not indicative of their status or value in a community. You simply don't like someone because they're younger than you? How... mature.

And to ilovebertwalker - the universe is just too large to be the result of the big bang? How so?

Do you realize that the statement is nonsensical?

i was never atheist. i just fell away from god. and started to take my life in my own hands. until i was 18 i started see whats going on , i always knew but decided to ignore it. now more than even i use weed or spiritual use. i dont think that weed is wrong either. its natural. and this universe is way to large to have been just been made by a big bang thats silly. i tell you there is a god. hes there with you. my cousin said that god gave him to my aunt when he was a baby. mind you he was 2. keep smoking read the bible haha

Some may call me close minded
some may call me open minded
but i don't care
maybe i believe in something you can't prove on paper
on a calculator
or in the lab
because i do think there is more then the eye could see
way more
things you cannot even imagine
i believe that there are things you can only prove by experience
and maybe it's more then just "luck"
what if there were no humans on this planet?
wouldn't this beautiful scenery just go to waste?
some may ask me
"Why hasn't he appeared to me?"
"Why haven't i seen him?"
"heard him?"
because it's more then just something Physical,
emotional
It's something spiritual
something you cannot explain
no matter how long you sit and calculate for
it just is
it just is
Because we live in this world together
it's not about you
or me
it's about us living with each other
you can spend your life locked up in a class
trying to use numbers as tools to help you explain
but look around you
look outside
close your eyes
open your mind
think of the most beautiful thing you have ever seen
explain that using numbers
after you close your eyes and open your mind
you will realize that we were created out of love
not numbers, digits, luck nor chance
Love
Love
Love
Close your eyes and open your mind

Marijuana is undoubtedly a "spiritual" aid or development tool. I use it all the time to gain insight on an issue. Thinking rationally while high can be a creative and insightful experience into different aspects of life. It allows a person to think "meta" about processes, social networks, etc which does bring a lot of insight.

However I am an atheist, and I do not think the marijuana experience has ever made me feel like there was a greater power. Although I can see how those who do believe could use it in such a way as to strengthen that relationship.

Furthermore, the poem above, was nicely written, but the argument that is made about some things being experiential only and not able to be measured is not the best argument for theism. What it comes down to is saying that the mind is not just the brain, but something else, something beyond measurement, essentially saying that there is a spirit. This is unreasonable because we can detect things happening in the brain, and we don't see god fooling around up there. Additionally, the instruments that we have can sense in many more senses than our bodies have, we can sense a whole heck of a lot, UV, Infrared, Radio Waves, Atomic Absorption, nuclear magnetic resonance, mass spectrometry, high pressure liquid chromatography, radioactive decay, SONAR, and many more. Certainly if this higher power existed that actually influenced anything at all in our universe that can affect us in anyway, could have been measured. If god showed up in the measurements, god would have to be true. God just doesn't show up.
