The problem is not that god exists; it is that people believe god exists. Why is it that the more people believe that a fact is true, the more people as individuals believe it to be true.

Take for example I said that there was a big green blob, and one day this blob created the earth by letting out a great big fart. - You would assume I was crazy. But if a managed to convince a million people that this was the case, with no real proof, just the fear that if they do not believe and worship this gassy blob they will burn in hell.

Then you would assume maybe not fully believe, that if a million people believe me there must be some way that this is true. But it is just not.

But by reading a book written hundreds of years ago, by MEN not Gods, this book has managed to convince millions of people that the teaching and stories in the books are true, and to question them is blasphemy and they will be burnt in hell. What better way really to control the masses?

Hey you give me £1000 to build a church or you and your family will burn in hell. LOL.

We get it today, lets go to war with Iraq of Sadam will launch nukes at us and kill us all. Again LOL.

Don’t get me wrong the actual stories in the Bible have a good msg and if we all followed them the world would be a better place. But while people still believe in these Gods we can never win because in all fairness, “my god is better that yours!!”

I cannot bring myself to believe in something so outlandish(in my opinion) that cannot be proven, or has no supporting evidence. Why does a god HAVE to exist? It seems some people cannot imagine the world as it is if there wasn't something all powerful to give credit to.

Why are humans so different then other animals? Sure, we have intelligent thought ,speech and language and those things. But turn it around and we still have most of the same body parts as a pig or a dog.

Im a big believer in science, though I don't completley deny that there is a possibility of a omnipotent source of everything, there just hasnt been anything to convince me.

Anecdotal evidence is meaningless unless there is some sort of objective evidence to verify the anecdotal evidence.

cant say it is peer reviewed, but we do have stories from surgeons, who themselves, have phd's and are pretty educated if you ask me. I would know, i have a very similar undergrad to them.

anyways......near death experiences. Their is a plethera of stories about surgeons who claim their patients were clinically dead, with zero chance of being able to form a thought. These patients talk of out of body experiences, describing converstations, tools, procedures in perfect detail when they in know way could have been conscious, let alone they were under anestesia.

so, this is not peer reviewed. But lets remember, just because it is peer reviewed, does not make it a law? Have you ever seen a picture of HIV? (I have'nt). Can you prove AIDS is caused the the HIV virus, when to the best of my knowledge it has never been successfully "properly" isolated? see where I am going with this?

so in summery, no, near death experiences are not peer reviewed, and they certaintly dont prove that God exists. You also can question the credibility of the surgeons, I would not fault you for that, it must be considered. BUT, they seem pretty credible to me, and it does imply that we have a soul, and it lives on, which does give the nod that their probably is a God.

edit- this "ONE" example is a small aspect of the bigger picture

The concept of a god has only existed for a few thousand years ever since man has pondered the origin of his existence. In relation to the age of the earth (around 4.5 billion years or so), a few thousand years is incomprehensibly miniscule. Unless that is of course, you believe the earth is only 6000 years old, in which case I would say you are ignorant.
