| I was just reading this cool book in a class today, and it said the liver produces a lot of the digestive enzymes needed to break down, store, and release energy from fat. Also the liver is one of the most regenerative organs, and it totally repairs itself from occasional alcohol use. Im not talking about alcohol to be used as a drug, just from a historical point of view, mods note. Then in another class i was reading prometheus, the greek titan, was said to give fire to humans, and his liver was eating everyday, but grew back, after a bird ate it. Zues punished him with that for giving humans fire to cook from a trick he played on him. He gave him a choice of meat in a stomach, or a bone in fat. Zues didnt know what was inside so he chose the fat, and the humans get the meat. They then needed fire to burn off the fat to give to zues, and zues tried to take it out of anger, and then prometheus stole it back and he punished him. So i think prometheus is a symbol for the liver/alcohol. He gave fire to humans after they discovered it, he just gave it back. Pour alcohol on a fire to see how quick it starts up. The liver store the glucose as glycogen in triglycerites, or fat, for energy. The liver regenerates by itself after exposed to alcohol. Also i forgot to mention a bird is usually the symbol for drugs in ancient mythology, or some other "spirited" material.
