| This is just my view, I am open-minded so don't take things I say here the wrong way.. Personally I think organized religion is one of man's biggest faults. More people died in the name of some god or another, than anything else. It's the basis of most wars. This is not to say I don't believe in a higher power, or reasoning to mans exsistence. I look at religion and spirituality as two very different things. My family never pushed religion, nor put it down.. it was just a non-issue when I grew up. In fact to this day I've only been in a actual church once, and that was for a friends wedding. To me organized religion is for followers, people who have no direction themselves. Not in having faith in the religions beliefs so much as doing the whole church on Sunday thing. To me "following a religion" sounds like a oxymoron. I'm the furthest thing from what I consider 'religious', althought I am extremely spiritual, if you follow. As thegoat pointed out, look at the similarities between the largest and smallest things known to man... atoms and the universe. Too coincidental, but beyond the understanding of our exsistence. It's not who or what you believe, it's that you do believe. It's that you want to believe and that you want to understand. It knowing there's something beyond the comprehension of man, but want to understand anyway. It's knowing that you can't know it all, and have to have faith in your own instincts. It's being courteous and open-minded to others not because "god" wants you to, but because you want to. It's hitting someone in the face not because "satan" told you to do it, but because they deserved it. It's taking care of yourself above all else (physically & mentally). It's smokin a phatty, goin on a rant about spirituality on some forums, then looking up to see the sun rising and thinkin 'hey, some breakfast would be killer right now!' and not have to dodge bullets when I leave my house to get some. ![]() Nebula - takin-off to the center of the universe |

| Herb Ninja - So sorry to hear of your sister. please acept my heartfelt condolences. Nebula - greetings to a like mind. Weedzinger - I am happy for you. To all - Peace I was deeply greiving today, thank you for being here. Writing this has made me feel much better. It is good to meet a few open minds, perhaps even some future allies. When I saw the book, 'Shattered Lives' about how distructive the drug war is, I felt compelled to do what I could to end it, so I have been making plans to force the issue to legalize pot. I do not know if I will be sucessful, but I do know my plan logically has an excellent chance of sucess. It is actually very simple and straightforward, arising from my observations of Deadheads - they are now going into their third generation. They are not just fans of a band, they are a people, my people, united by philosophy. My plan is based on the asumption that with the right legal help, I will be able to sucessfully sue for the constitutionally guarenteed right that we all have to our religious practices. I am Native American - just a drop, but it is spiritually overwhelming. My religious practice is outlawed. I was deeply grieved by the things I read in the books, 'The Earth Shall Weep, A History of Native America' and 'Native American Testimony'. It has been a five hundred year effort at ethnic/religious clensing; a never-ending effort to destroy native Americans' culture and religion. The drug war is just the latest chapter in an apalling and largely unknown history of genocide and destruction. |
