No, it isn't. If the baby cannot survive outside the womb, then yes, that is one of the reasons parents or mother nature aborts a fetus.

There are plenty of babies that have spina biffida, downs syndrome, physical abnormalities, heart defects, etc... that aren't even considered a candidate for abortion. I am also the Aunt of a baby boy who was born with Hydroencaphaly (spelling); and a sister to a baby girl born with a congenital hip deformity. The baby boy lived less than 1/2 a year, but his mother did not choose abortion. He had a normal gestation period, normal birth, as normal a life as we could give him until he died. We loved him no less any other of the other children in the family. 32 years later my sister (the baby girl) just had her first child and is now as healthy as I am.

The most frequent reason for deliberate abortion I would think would be unwanted pregnancy.

Some would consider your callous, harsh attitude towards anyone than is less than perfect to be a defect in your personality. Perhaps we should abort you from the human race? You aren't perfect, you have a defect, so... Bye bye.

Don't get me wrong, I don't agree with Sarah Palin on this issue, I believe first trimester abortions should be allowed without stipulations on the reason.

2nd and 3rd trimester abortions should only be done when the life of the baby isn't viable or the life/health of the mother and/or baby are threatened by continuing the pregnancy.

That is my take on the issue. It should be a decision made by only those directly involved and their medical providers. Everyone else, butt out.

I do, however; respect her decision to have a family and a career. Much the same as every other adult in the modern world. Her family life shouldn't be scrutinized as much as it is. How effective of a father is Barak Obama? Why are we not debating whether he and his wife should have had their children? Why are we not debating whether he should be raising his children rather than running willy-nilly across the country? Who is watching his children while his wife is making her speaches and traveling with him?

The Palin children appear to be happy and healthy. They will not affect her ability to do her job any more or less than they have in the past. 80% of the population of Alaska feel she is doing a wonderful job as Govenor.

Argue your points about her bringing a devective child into the world to them. See what you get.

Sec...take a look at number 4..........

The most common reasons women consider abortion are:
  • Birth control (contraceptive) failure. Over half of all women who have an abortion used a contraceptive method during the month they became pregnant.5
  • Inability to support or care for a child.
  • To end an unwanted pregnancy.
  • To prevent the birth of a child with birth defects or severe medical problems. Such defects are often unknown until routine second-trimester tests are done.
  • Pregnancy resulting from rape or incest.
  • Physical or mental conditions that endanger the woman's health if the pregnancy is continued.

Most abortions are done without what I would consider just cause.

People need to develop some personal responsibility when it comes to their recreational sexual activity. Which is why I disagree with Palin on taking graphic sexual education out of schools. BUT...I do think that abortions should be restricted after the first trimester without due cause.

However, that's a personal preference that I would not inflict on the majority; personally I wouldn't choose abortion, but I wouldn't tell someone else they couldn't do it. Because I want the choice to do with my own body what I choose, unless I am in a state of consciousness where that choice is not available to me. I think that choice should be available to everyone.

It's not my place to tell people what to do with the consequences of their actions, I just prefer that the problem was taken care of through preventative measures like quality sex education in schools and lots of access to contraceptives.

I'm by no means dead set on the issue, but I find myself agreeing with Marvin this time. If I had a choice between being aborted or living my life with down syndrome, I'd pick the former every time. In fact, I'd even argue that it's more humane to have the abortion when it's inevitable that the child is going to have significant problems for the rest of their life.

This has nothing to do with the child not being "perfect," but putting it's needs before oneself. People always make comments like 'living with xxx(insert disease/disorder with poor prognosis here)xxx is better than not living at all, but is it? I don't agree.

(I'd like to continue the abortion subject. I'd like to point out what your feelings is on...)

Is there a line we need to draw on what is okay to hunt? Should there be some sort of action passed to allow them to live there lives, before they are an endangered species? What's pro-life when you allow and give rewards to people who slay wolves, bears and
reindeer by helicopter? I even seen a man hunt down a wolf, and it turns out that it is actually hard to acuratly hit them, so these animals suffer......

As a person who doesn't eat meat. It takes allot out of me to say that, I am okay with hunters that go out to the woods and kill a deer some turkey and shit. I see in magazines and clips on line, that it is a great bonding experience. But when it comes to only being a sporting event..... What's the excuse????? Please. Tell me.

She tried to use taxpayers' millions for a state program to shoot wolves from the air but didn't spend enough money to fix a state school system with the lowest high-school graduation rate in the nation; she runs with a candidate who opposes the Fair Pay Act but supports $500 million in subsidies for a natural gas pipeline across Alaska; she supports drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Reserve, though even McCain has opted for the lesser evil of offshore drilling.

Your example is, out of six, fourth on the list. That places it among the least often reason given for an abortion, not among the most.

I do agree with hunting, have hunted and my family continues to hunt; both for sport and food. We shoot coyotes and other varmits on a regular basis, just because they are destructive to the farm animals. We shoot ferral cats in town with the paint ball gun, etc... I see nothing wrong with hunting. Overpopulation of a species is a worse death (starvation, disease) than a bullet from a hunting rifle.

I also agree with subsidies for pipelines. I live in an area that is energy rich, but has no way to transport that energy effectively on a mass scale to the rest of the nation. We need transmission lines and pipelines. Otherwise, the energy we have here will continue to be untapped.

I used to live in an area where grizzly bears were transplanted to. It helped save the species, but made for dangerous recreation for humans. I understand the pull between saving the species and hunting rights, rights of ranchers, etc.. I have had bears in my back yard within 20 yards of my pre-school aged children playing on a swingset. We had to shoot them (Mother and cubs).

Maybe you would like those wolves and grizzlys in Central Park? Why are the people in California now complaining that something needs to be done with the mountain lions? Is it a typical "not in my backyard" type of sentiment?

We have gotten off track a bit.

If you were born without a right leg, but otherwise perfectly normal, would you agree with your parents decision to allow you to be born?
What if the only thing wrong was your pinky was bent?
What degree of disability makes you no longer valuable as a human being?

There has been drilling for oil in Alaska for over 30 years now without a major mishap involving the drilling sites. The major spills were after the oil got to the ocean. Even the Alaska Pipeline, which is now 50% beyond it's estimated lifespan, hasn't sprung a major leak. What makes off-shore drilling "less evil"? (remember the Exxon Valdiz?) You do know that with every land based oil drilling rig, there is regulation requiring complete containment of the site in the event of a spill. The site is trenched and lined with a membrane designed to contain any spill. It is a hell of a lot safer and cleaner than most people realize.

By the way, the video would lead you to believe that Sarah Palin killed that animal from a plane. Why didn't the video reveal that she followed the current hunting laws as written? She did nothing wrong. The author/producer of the video is obviously anti-hunting and is making something appear to be something it isn't.

I don't agree with shooting wolves from aircraft for sport and I don't know if that is what is happening here. The video doesn't explain if this is a remote area or if the wolves have become dangerously close to civilization and are endangering human beings and/or livestock or not. It merely shows the extermination of two wolves using an aircraft and gun. It is sensationalism at its worst.

Wow, you had me up until that. How the heck do you manage to justify shooting cats with a paintball gun along side of hunting for food/protection of property?

Ferral cats are destructive and spread disease. They get into garbage, piss and shit in all the gardens, flowerbeds, etc... They fight with and kill domestic pets.

Need more reasons?

I never said it was hunting for sport any more than the video of shooting wolves from the aircraft was hunting for sport. It is more pest control.

Do you put out rat poison? Do you set mouse traps? Same thing. Extermination of unwanted vermin.

Erase 'Feral cats', and add human.

My intentions were not to start a huge argument. Simply to understand others views on this type of hunting. I just can't see how we are cutting acres and acres of there forests, there homes. And say that they inconvenience us. We give inconvenience to the animals that are in zoo's simply because they are extinct do to over hunting. And to hunt these animals down simply for a thrill is kinda off balance to me.
