| We are a Country at War. The last thing I really want for a President, is to not have a career out of carpet bombing people. As for what I am going to discuss over the leadership issue, is McCain's personal reasons, and who is running his campaign. I'll start with his campaign. John McCain says he wants to end Lobbyist in Washington. As we all know, Lobbyists is what is basically running our Country. I'll list the top advisers to McCain, and what they did before they pored money into his campaign. Charlie Black Charlie Black is John McCain's chief political adviser and formerly a partner at the lobbying firm he founded, BKSH & Associates. He took leave from the firm earlier this year. The firm's client list have included military contractor Blackwater Worldwide and Phillip Morris, as well ass Angolan warlord Jonas Savimbi, and former dictators Ferdinand Marcos of the Philipenes and Mobutu Sese Seko of Zaire (now the Democratic Republic of Congo). Last year Black was registered to lobby on behalf of 29 clients, including AT&T, Lockheed Martin, Occidental Petroleum, and JP Morgan Chase. Rick Davis Rick Davis is John McCain's campaign manager from both this election cycle and McCain's run in 2000. However, he recently turned over day-to-day campaign operations to another staffer. Davis took leave in 2006 from the lobbying firm he founded, Davis Manafort, in which he retains an ownership stake. Davis Manafort's clients list has included Verizon and SBC Communications, Ukranian holding company System Capital Management and Russian magnate Oleg Deripaska, a close ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Although he has not been registered as a lobbyist for several years, his firm was actively involved working as an unregistered lobbyist representing the interests abroad of foreign politicians and businessmen. Phil Gramm Phil Gramm is an economic adviser for McCain who was until April a registered lobbyist for UBS, the world's largest manager of personal wealth. Gramm is also currently a vice chairmen for UBS's investment arm. A former Texas senator and economics professor at Texas A&M, Gramm was still a lobbyist when he advised McCain on the campaign's economic policies unveiled earlier this year. My comments: How is this different from Obama's campaign? Simple. Obama doesn't have his top advisers as registered Lobbyists. And Obama has refused to take Lobbyists money. FYI-- Lobbyists are everywhere. As McCain Openly accepts Lobbyists money. Obama does not. He has vowed to make his campaign ran by the American people(I have donated over $300 since January, and I am on his mailing list). The beginning of the end of the culture of corruption that has plagued Republicans in Washington. As far as reading through the internet goes. The major majority of the sources say that Obama has not personally received money from special interests groups, but from businesses that follow his policies. Ethics and Lobbying Reform Throughout his political career, Barack Obama has fought for open and honest government. As an Illinois State Senator, he helped pass the state’s first major ethics reform bill in 25 years. And as a U.S. Senator, he has spearheaded the effort to clean up Washington in the wake of numerous scandals. In the first two weeks of the 110th Congress, Senator Obama helped lead the Senate to pass the Legislative Transparency and Accountability Act, a comprehensive ethics and lobbying reform bill, by a 96-2 vote. This landmark bill was signed into law by the President in September 2007. The final bill that the Congress passed closely mirrored and drew key provisions in a bill (S. 230) that Senators Obama and Feingold introduced in January 2007 to establish a “gold standard” for reform. Among the provisions in the Obama-Feingold bill that were adopted by the Senate and the House were: strict bans on receiving gifts and meals from lobbyists; new rules to slow the revolving door between public and private sector service; and an end to the subsidized use of corporate jets. Most importantly, the final reform bill contained a provision pushed by Senator Obama to require the disclosure of contributions that registered lobbyists “bundle” – that is, collect or arrange – for candidates, leadership PACs, and party committees. The New York Times called this provision “the most sweeping” in the bill, and the Washington Post said: “No single change would add more to public understanding of how money really operates in Washington.” In January 2006, Senator Obama laid the groundwork for the reform package that the Senate eventually adopted a year later. He started building a coalition for reform by helping to author the Honest Leadership and Open Government Act introduced with 41 Democratic sponsors. The bill proposed lengthening the cooling off period to two years for lawmakers who seek to become lobbyists and requiring immediate disclosure as soon as public servants initiate any job negotiations to become lobbyists. The bill would have opened conference committee meetings to the public and required that all bills be posted on the Internet for 24 hours before they can be voted on by the Senate. Finally, the bill would have ended all lobbyist-funded gifts, meals, and travel and strengthened the Senate office that monitors lobbyist disclosure forms. All of these provisions were incorporated in either identical or similar form into the final bill passed in 2007. In addition, Senator Obama sponsored three other ethics-related bills in the 109th Congress that went even further on ethics, earmarks, and legislative transparency. By the time of the 110th Congress, his ideas for reform had gained support, and many of his proposals were passed by the Senate.
TPMMuckraker | Talking Points Memo | John McCain's Lobbyist Universe Ethics and Lobbying Reform | U.S. Senator Barack Obama Personal reasons John McCain married another woman while he was still married to his previous wife. Carol, who was a famous beauty and a successful swimwear model when they married in 1965. A wife that suffered a accident, and made her severely injured for the rest of her life. McCain divorced this woman, a woman that imagined his death everyday while he was a POW. And he repays her, by marrying a rich woman. That's a Maverick right there. Hey, at least he left her and paid for her medication with the millions he has married into. McCain's nickname is McNasty. Oh yes, that sounds like hes a very nice guy for getting that nickname. But, you must tell his wife, Cindy to not make fun of his pathetic comb over, because he will call you a 'cunt' in public. "Three reporters from Arizona, on the condition of anonymity, also let me in on another incident involving McCain's intemperateness. In his 1992 Senate bid, McCain was joined on the campaign trail by his wife, Cindy, as well as campaign aide Doug Cole and consultant Wes Gullett. At one point, Cindy playfully twirled McCain's hair and said, "You're getting a little thin up there." McCain's face reddened, and he responded, "At least I don't plaster on the makeup like a trollop, you cunt." McCain's excuse was that it had been a long day. If elected president of the United States, McCain would have many long days." Which brings me to McCain and his temper. John McCains temper is well documented. With massive outbursts in public. Which scares me, because he will be the leader with his finger over the red button when another Country makes fun of his thinning hair. I would bring up John McCains wife, Cindy and her prescription drug abuse scandal... But as Obama said, "It's a family matter, and shouldn't be apart of." So, I'll leave it at that. Wish McCain's campaign can see that, and stop attacking Michelle. ![]() ![]() Sources: The Raw Story | Book: McCain temper boiled over in '92 tirade, called wife a 'cunt' The wife John McCain callously left behind | Mail Online

Search Results - THOMAS (Library of Congress) Obama isn't listed as the sponsor or one of 17 co-sponsors of this bill.
The Curtailing Lobbyist Effectiveness through Advance Notification, Updates, and Posting Act (The CLEAN UP Act) This bill aims to improve public access to information about all legislation, including conference reports and appropriations legislation, in particular after hurried, end-of-session negotiations. Conference committee meetings and deliberations would have to be open to the public or televised, and conference reports would have to identify changes made to the bill from the House and Senate versions. Finally, no bill could be considered by the full Senate unless the measure has been made available to all Senators and the general public on the Internet for at least 72 hours.
I followed your link and got this: http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d109:s.02179: Basically, he sponsored it more than 2-1/2 years ago and it has sat in one committee or another since then. He hasn't promoted it enough to get any action on it to speak of. Quote:

| I'll keep it short and simple: if you like the way this country has been run for the last eight years, vote for McCain. He voted with President Bush 95% of the time. If you want to see things change, vote for someone else.

| Change for the better or change for the worse? You've given no evidence that Obama is a change for the better. |

Sure we don't know exactly what Obama will do... but we do have a great idea of what McCain would do based on his 95% voting-like-the-president record and his close ties with the current administration. Thus it is easy to say that 4 more years of McCain would be similar to 4 more years of Bush's polcies So if you don't like the way the current USA is, and your choices are between an unknown and a guy that votes similar to the current administration.... Do the math, solve the x, and you will see that McCain = Bush. With that said... One of my personal reasons for not liking McCain is because I do not view him as a role-model. I believe any person you think is worthy of being president should also be a role-model for all american citizens. Right now we have 2 major candidates... one is a self-made man, a good family man, a self-built-wealth man, a highly educated man. The other is a man that was handed everything, bottom of his class, crashed 5 (FIVE) planes, got captured, and when he came back home, instead of trying to make a better man out of himself... he cheats on his handicapped, faithful wife, marries a richer woman, and uses her money to fund his political aspirations. So let's see... do I want the inspirational, self-made man to be a role-model? Or do I want the pathetic man who couldn't even make it with a helping-start, yet alone stay true to his wife to be a role-model? Hard choice. ![]() | |
