Arrow Sarah Palin - Religious Nutcase

I feel this is worthy of its own thread.

I feel that policies are one thing, but the mental health is another.

So in this thread, I thought we should talk about what we think about Sarah Palin's religious beliefs and how we think that may affect her judgement.

Here's a good article for starters:

Sarah Palin, Wasilla, book banning | Salon News

So it appears that Sarah Palin:
-Believes the earth is less than 7,000 years old
-Believes humans walked with dinosaurs
-Passionately believes the "End of Days" (Jesus coming back) will happen in her lifetime.

Seriously... Palin has a pretty good shot at being president... do we really want someone who happily welcomes Armageddon to have access to the nuke codes?

A: No, it just focuses me. ADHD is like having a bunch of TVs in your head, all running different programs, and having no ability to control them. Marijuana not only appears to give me a remote, it also allows me to shut off all the other TVs sucking up the juice... which makes the TV I'm watching a bit brighter.

If McCain is elected, she does have a shot at presidency because of McCain's advanced... age. However, as VP (before anyone else decides to say it), she won't have access to them.

As for her religious beliefs? That's not why I wont be voting for the ticket, I wont be voting for the ticket because I don't think McCain will be a positive influence on the America.

I honestly don't believe that I could vote for someone who believed the world was 7,000 years old anyway, but at least I don't have to make that choice.

Not just his age.... Ron Paul is old too, but he is a spry man.

There are two types of old people...

-The type of old person that makes people go "Damn, that guy has alot of life left in 'em!"

and

-The type of old person that makes people go "Wow... they are going to die any moment".

Guess which McCain is?

He's just not in good health... takes a shitload of meds... and for some reason he doesn't think the public has any right to his medical records.

So yeah, I would say she has a higher-than-normal chance of becoming president.

Release of McCain's Medical Records Provides Unusually Broad Psychological Profile - New York Times

I believe that McCain has released his medical records, he just hasn't allowed them to be read in any detail.

They gave them 1,500 pages, and said 'you can't take pictures, you can't make photocopies, you have a finite amount of time with these records, and we're only releasing them in part, to different media outlets.'

That isn't releasing records... that has nothing to do with a "release" of anything... it is a strategic show.

And yes, I believe medical records play an important part if you have an expiration date of less than 4 years. I don't care if that makes me a hypocrit... its reality. And if you want to be my president but you look like a corpse, I want reassurance that you are alive.

Calling that a "release of documents" is like saying a terrorist group "released" a bunch of hostages, when in reality they just let people visit them for a day, not ask them any questions, and promptly locked them back up.

Edit: Back on topic.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I do believe that all of the candidates should release their full medical records.

If you're going to represent me to the rest of the world, I have a right to know about your physical and mental health.

Good luck finding any candidate who, obviously or not, isn't at least somewhat "directed" by his or her religious beliefs. If we're going to dismiss Palin based on her beliefs on evolution, we might as well discount Obama as well, or have you all forgot he attended a church ran by "God Damn America" Wright, was married by him, and had his children baptized by him. If we're going to focus on religious beliefs as a way oif discounting candiddates, one cannot only play one side of the fence. Obama claimed ignorance as to his pator's beliefs, despite considering him a spiritiual advisor and having attended his church for 20 years. At least Palin, as silly as you might find her beliefs to be, owns them and doesn't try to play off like she wasn't aware her church bel;ieved in such things. I have more repect for her than Obama simply because Obama pretended to to be ignorant, or was copmpletely ignorant, of the teachings of his "spiritual advisor". Either option seems to carry less integrity than standing up for what you believe in, even if others tend to see things differently. Obama wants to please the masses at any cost, even if it meant throwing his spiritual advoisr to the wolves when the connection was no longer beneficial to him. If thats how he treats friends of 20 years or more, why should I believe he'll have any more integrity towards me, Joe Citizen, whom he has never met and likely never will?

So, just so I get this straight... in your world:

Religious Belifs held by a person == knowing someone who is crazy

?

You're comparing apples and oranges.

No, I'm not. I think Obama knew more about his pastor's beliefs than he led people to believe. I assume he identified with such beliefs to name Wright a spiritual advisor, and to have attended his church for more than 20 years. You can sum it up the way you put it if you choose to, but again, you're seeing what you want to see out of the situation. All I'm saying is Palin at least has the self respect and integrity to stand up for her beleifs, rather than disown lifelong friends when its suddenly no longer politically handy to be associated with someone anymore. No matter how you look at it, Obama threw a friend of 20 years away because it was suddenly inconvient to be associated with him anymore. No matter what you feel about his religious beleifs, as someone who values friends on the level of family, such behavior is appalling. To claim you were ignorant of what your self-proclaimed spiritual advisor believed in is laughable, especially when you've written a book detailing his influence on your life. I admire Plain because she sticks to her guns and her beliefs, rather than selling them out immediately as Obama has done in the past. Its not so much that Obama attended a church with a sometimes radical message that bothers me....its how he handled it, by claiming complete and utter ignorance when before 9only days before, in fact) he couldn't say enough nice things about what a wonderful man Jerimiah Wright was. Obama threw him to the wolves to save his own careeer. Doesn't exactly sound like someone who's going to fight for the underdog, now does it? (Then again, how many elistists do you know that are in touch with the underdogs of society?)

Did Obama say "God Damn America"? No. Did Palin say that commonly accepted basic science is false because her old book says something different? Yes. There's a world of difference between implying guilt by association and quoting someone's actual statements. The Right wing will have to do better than that.

Religious beliefs are not really the question here. It's being disconnected from reality by your religious beliefs. I don't want someone a heartbeat away from the Presidency whose world view doesn't include basic science. I want decisions made on the basis of the facts on the ground, not on a bizarre belief system that doesn't have anything to do with reality.
