Default The Man who has my vote

Ron Paul

Quote:
People are not beholden to the Government, but rather the Government is beholden to the people. Never let anyone tell you Ron Paul can't win. He only needs 51% of the vote. That only happens when you tell everyone you know about Ron Paul and the Freedom message. You can't count on television stations owned by corporations to tell you the truth. Research and make your own decision. We don't have to elect just another politician. Support the candidate who wants the Government out of our lives and our troops out of Iraq NOW. RonPaul2008.com

Straw Poles are relatively inconsequential in the long run the overall, while I don't think that it means nothing, I wouldn't get my hopes up.

More and more people are opening up to Ron Paul because he speaks the TRUTH, if he had the money that Hillary or Obama has he would be the FAVORITE to win the election. But this is not the case so instead of that we have national news organizations trying to sweep him under the rug like he doesnt exist.

I was watching a debate recently where Paul was answering a question and you could hear guiliani actually LAUGHING at his answer! That classless low life prick! When Ron won the Fox news debate they tried to shrug it off as ron's supporters texting in over and over again to vote for him when we all know that you can only vote once! The sad part is people see him and say "oh dont waiste your vote hes gonna lose" well not if we all VOTE for him he wont!

The 51% of the vote is a myth.
He needs the majority of electoral votes, specifically 269.

This sums it up on Wikipedia's entry on the Electoral College:

If one ticket were to take California (55 votes), Texas (34), New York (31), Florida (27) Illinois (21), Pennsylvania (21), Ohio (20), Michigan (17), Georgia (15), New Jersey (15), and North Carolina (15), that ticket would have 271 votes, which would be enough to win. (In theory, if a minimum number of voters were to vote in those eleven states, the other major ticket could have a landslide victory in the popular vote and still lose the election.) But such exercises are just that - exercises. There is no election in American history in which such an event has occurred or come close to occurring. In the close elections of 2000 and 2004, these eleven states gave 111 votes to Republican candidate George W. Bush and 160 votes to Democratic candidates Al Gore and John Kerry.
I'm all for Ron Paul. I have voted for him in previous presidential elections when he ran as a Libertarian, as I believe in his platform of smaller, unobtrusive federal government.
However, if you're going to talk about what he needs to win the election, he needs a lot more than what you outlined.

Frankly, I don't think he has a snowball's chance in hell. He goes against the grain of the traditional Republican Party views.
Sadly, I think that's tragic, but it's all the nature of United States politics.

Exactly. The republicans that took over the party aren't the traditional republicans. Ron Paul is the perfect example of what a traditional Republican is.

Also about the electoral votes. Depending on how your state does it, your vote does influence who gets the electoral votes. By law in my state, the electoral vote is directly tied to the popular vote.

You both are 100% correct. Bad choice of words on my part.

Let me rephrase:

Frankly, I don't think he has a snowball's chance in hell. He goes against the grain of the views of the rest of the Republican Party.
Sadly, I think that's tragic, but it's all the nature of United States politics.
