I propose that there is a limit on the total knowledge that not just one person, but the entirety of the human race can achieve. I also see no way around it, although I don't imagine that it will be a problem in any of our lifetimes...

To explain how I came to this conclusion...

First, the human brain has limits to it's total knowledge carrying capacity. That is, there are a finite number of things that a human brain can comprehend.

Second, the human lifespan is not infinite. That is, there is a certain time limit which the human body cannot live past, regardless of medical or scientific intervention.

If either, or both, of these concepts are accepted, this would put a limit on the knowledge that can be achieved by a single man. Since all things must be learned (for the sake of this thread, we're excluding the most basic ability - such as breathing), even in the most efficient learning environment there will be a limit to what an individual can learn in his or her lifetime.

As a result, at some point children will not have the luxury of gathering a basic understanding of all the basic subjects (Maths, Sciences, History, Geography, Language(s)/Writing, Literature, etc) and still have a fighting chance at the field in which they intend to study.

Which brings me to my first question of this thread; is it unethical in such an environment to put your child into a specialized program for a specific one of the subjects? Keeping in mind, that if you don't he or she will never have a chance at being 'lead of their field,' or 'top of the game' in any field of study.

If ethical; at what point does it become unethical? Rather, is it unethical for a parent to put their child into extensive ice skating programs in todays world? Keeping in mind that without it, the child will likely be able to compete in the Olympics ('top of their field').

If unethical; Why?

Further more, at some point human knowledge will reach its peak (or the point in which knowledge acquisition becomes negligible), because students cannot learn enough to come up with new ideas in their lifetime, or cannot learn enough to develop new ideas at all.

Which brings me to my 2nd question; Wtf do we do about it?

I make this thread as much for responses to the questions, to see if this idea makes any sense to anyone else, or if it's just gibberish...
