| In order to get from point A to point B, you first have to travel half way there right? Then from that point to get to point B, you will have to travel at least half the distance right? And so on. Eventually you will get really close, but will never quite get there. Does time flow? Can it be cut up into an infinite number of pieces? I would argue that because of Zeno's Paradox (Above) that time is discrete and there is a smallest interval of time that exists. If time is infinitely divisible, consider trying to get from 0 seconds to 1 second. First you have to pass up 1/2 a second. Then you will have to pass up 3/4 a second, and so on. You could never ever get passed a single second. Or consider in an even more bizarre way. Try to go from 0 seconds to 0.0000001 seconds. First you have to go 0.00000005 seconds Then 0.000000075 seconds and so on like the other examples. If time can be split up into an infinite number of pieces then we would not experience time the way we do. Therefore I suggest that time is quantum, it exists in discrete units, and there is a smallest measurement of time possible. What do you all think? |
