one of my freinds once propesed this theory to me that if the universe is infitly large that that means that every thing we could posssibly imagen must happn somewhere in this infitaly large univere and that their are plants named anythng we could imagen becuase its infantly large..ect ect

but my thought not saying this theory is wrong is what if just in this infinite universe theirs just nothing nothing for father then we can comprehend.

Im pretty sure that the visible universe is 76 Billion lightyears across, and expanding rapidly. The true size of the universe may or may not be infinite, though it will be impossible to ever prove the universe is infinite.


To the OP: I also used to think the same exact thing. I used to think that if the universe is infinite then somewhere in the universe anything I could imagine was real.

As I got older, I learned a little bit more about infinity and realized that what I thought as a child might not necessarily be true.

For you see, there are many different kinds of infinity, an infinite number of different kinds of infinity.

For example, consider the set of all real positive even whole numbers.

2,4,6,8,......infinity. There are infinitely many real positive even whole numbers, but this set doesn't contain ALL the numbers.

Even the set of all real positive whole numbers does not contain ALL numbers.

1,2,3,4,5.... infinity. This set contains the set of positive even, and odd numbers, each of which are an infinite set.

This set is infinite, but it still does not contain any negative numbers, nor any fractions, nor any complex numbers.
Even though the set of whole numbers is infinite and the set of even numbers is infinite, the set of whole numbers is in a sense larger than the set of even numbers.

As you can see infinity is not an intuitive concept, nor do humans even completely understand it. Some mathematicians have gone mad trying to understand infinity (Georg Cantor for example)

If this interests you, consider this;

Does the set containing all other sets contain itself?
If it does, how is this possible?
If it doesn't, can it really be considered the set of all sets?

The visible universe has about a 13.6 billion years radius, as that is the age of the universe. As light travels exactly one lightyear every year, the visible universe can't be any bigger than the number of years since its creation.

If you "try" and disprove this statment, then you are proving it becuase you are thinking of a way to disprove it, and by thinking therefore you exsist, and case in point is proven by you tryign to disprove it.

Also another Example of infintie is... How many fractions are there between 0 and 1?

1 divided by 2= .5 and contine that .5 divied by 2= .025 (and so on) = infinite.

Also the universe is Finite, not infinite. just because we cant reach to end doesnt mean there isn't one.(this has been covered allready)

If the set is Infinte it would HAVE to contain it's self. And how is that possible? Because it is god. and god is infinte(acourding to F'ing everything in relgion and Phil, and blah blah.)

To be infinte is someting humans cannot understand, becuase we are not infinte. but! we can "grasp" the idea of infinte in our minds. Which is an effect of something that created us. Decartes goes over all this shit.
