Gravity = Energy?

I drew a little diagram to show what I'm talking about. Can someone explain to me how this is physically impossible? Since gravity is a force, and not a source of energy or matter; how can it do this?

I'm sure it could work with a stable physics approach, but like other things such as Dyson spheres/ring worlds you would require more materials than we could economically scrounge up. Plus you'd have to skeleton a planet for the resources. Plus knock a planetary body in to a perfect binary orbit.

Two planets smashing into each other would certainly produce a great deal of heat and light. The distance between two massive objects gives them potential energy,relative to each other, which is converted to kinetic energy as they fall towards each other which is converted to heat and light upon impact, i.e. an explosion. This does not provide a way to generate energy over a long period of time.

Two massive objects kept separated by some sort of device would produce no more energy than a rock sitting on a brick sitting on the ground. There has to be motion to convert gravitational potential energy into any kind of usable energy.

That is a good thought though, if there was some way to produce energy from the earths own gravity we would be set...

Edit: Come to think of it...oil was made by being pushed by gravity for millions of years right...?

Something like this came up in chat last weekend.
I proposed that gravity is not an energy, but an entity.
Ever had one of those days when you couldn't stop dropping things?
Gravity is a trickster force, when it's not keeping us pinned to the ground. (Kind of like Coyote in Native American medicine stories.)

Gravity is merely an observation of space warping. Think of a planet or a star as a boat floating on the water of space and time. As an independent observer (you ) can see the object floating on space. If the object's weight becomes so great that it sinks into space we have a black hole. Since space ,time and light are sucked into the vortex created what we really need to do is harness the movement of space and time being sucked into the vortex. Basically we need to put a turbine that instead of turning on the force of water rushing past it turns on the force of space and time rushing past it.

whoa ..I think I have even confused me.
