| Or do lighters need to be made better? Right in front of me I have an array of lighters all with the same problem. The wheel and flint are gone, it seems like after a few weeks jingling in the pocket they break off and soon after the flint pops out along with the spring that holds it up to the wheel. Yeah I dont know exactly where im going with this but does anyone know of, I guess an "indestructible lighter"? |

| are you just buying disposable Bics? You really sholdn't expect much more if you are. Get a nice, classy, permanent butane lighter instead.

| I never have this problem. Just make sure you're buying Bic lighters. Try your best to keep the lighter in its own pocket without other items in it, and make sure it's snug in the pocket. Or perhaps you could fit it snugly into a tin of sorts...like a mint tin (Altoids, Velamints etc.) or a cigarette tin. Lighters should be tougher than how you describe. I've dropped, thrown, and picked at mine and they always function. If you're digging the safety out of it, be careful you don't ruin the flint or anything. If you don't want a normal Bic, then maybe you would consider buying one of those turbo flame lighters (or torches) that shoot the blue flame. I hear that the high temperatures can actually ruin some of the THC in the cannabis because of the high temperatures though, so you may wanna check that out. If it's only joints you're lighting, you could always get yourself a zippo, which are known to be tougher than normal lighters. But they don't work well for lighting bowls, remember. That's about all I can suggest right now. If you just be a little more gentle with the Bics, I think you'll be ok without even spending a lot.

| Im a bong guy or bowl mainly because the smell of joints man, that stink sticks to you for hours. I actually do own a Zippo but wow didnt have a lighter one day to light a bowl so I used my zippo. Worst Hit EVER. I dont know but this probably has an effect but some of my friends take that metal shield/cover thing whatever you want to call it, off does that maybe add to the breaking of it? |

This kinda reminds me, I once pocketed a lighter from a friend (old habits, lol) that had a little plastic sleeve thing over it, kinda like a lighter condom I don't know where to get them but if you ever come across one, you might wanna try it out. Also, from experience the normal large-size Bics are much more durable than the little mini Bics that you can buy. I wouldn't bother with those unless it's a last resort. The flame is weaker in the wind and they break really easily.Go to a conveniece store, buy a normal size Bic lighter, and keep it in its own pocket without f***ing with it too much or lending it away to a friend. I bet it'll work until the day the fluid runs out. You shouldn't have any problems.

![]() I have a Zippo. Won't hit bowl with it, but I love using it to light joints (especially outside). The thing is like a candle, you just hold onto it until you are done, don't have to worry about holding the gas down. Got no problems with Bics. Usually mine run out before they break, but I tend to have my stationary ones at home that don't move. The worst thing is people pocketing them all the time (accidental or intentional)!!! ![]()

| This is more of a general topic, so...Moved to General Topics. Bic lighters are the best you can get, I swear by them. the only other lighter I use (besides wind-proof lighters) are side lighters, made specifically for pipe smokers. those things kick ass, but are hard to find. ![]()

| New bics are great, they never let you down, until they get low on fluid and there is barely any flame to be had. ![]() The cheapo clear ones arent that bad, I like the fact that you can adjust the flame. However the wheel does come flying out rendering the lighter useless as an independent lighting device, this is due to keeping the lighter lit for too long. The heat from keeping it lit for a bowl begins to melt the black plastic that holds the wheel in place. They are ok if you treat them right. Plus you always know when your running low because you can see right into them. Unlike the bics which you have to hold up to a light to see how much fluid is in them. I have a couple of refillable metal torch lighters as backups. Bic is true and tried. Now you see if I was Conan I would get a free case of lighters.... |
