I recently got myself a nice wood grinder, it's great when the weed is plentiful...breaking the nugs down for blunts and joints. It also works well for nugs that are big and dense.

I just set the nug on top of the spikes on one side, then just push the top down and "mash" the nug inside. Then I twist one direction for a bit, then I go the other way. Works for me.

I have a cheap plastic grinder that does the job. I've had the problem, though, that I can't find the stems in the mess of broken up weed, and end up rolling with them. Last time I rolled a joint (yesterday), I had to use three different papers because they all got little poke holes in them. How do you avoid this problem. And don't say just break off the stems, because there's a little bit of stem inside too.

lmfao... this is why I've never bought a grinder. I've never used one either. I saw one on a website and thought "... wouldn't there be a big mess of broken up weed and stems? And I'd imagine that all of the trichomes would break off and stick to the grinder". I usually just use my fingers. I skillfully use my fingernails to rip it apart, but I still end up getting stems in there. It's mainly the big stems I'm concerned about, because it's way to hard and not worth the time to take all of those small ones out. If I'm in a hurry to roll, then I'll just hastily pluck everything off the "main" stem (the fattest one) and use my razor blade and a small metal box (to prevent the weed from flying in different directions when I chop it).

figure out how many hands your weed has been through, how many different baggies then listen to you whine about losing a few trichomes its ludacris/annoying, the trichome lost is minimal effect on the high, besides later you can just scrape the grinder and smoke some keef,kif whatever

You break the nug off of the stems before you put it in the grinder.

well i dont know about your grinder, but with mine i can grind the bud into a powder if i want, the stems have NEVER been a problem for me, they almost always remain in 1 peice, even if that peice is shredded up, but because the stems are so woody/fiberous they stay in one peice
if any stem does happen to get ground up, i dont worry about it, i just pick out the peices taht are about the size of the tip of your fingernail and its all good

I got a plastic grinder. The kif sticks to it hardcore. I can only scrape it out of the corners tho. Take the bud off the stem, put the bud in the grinder and twist it back and fourth about 4 to 5 times. I usually do this with a cd case and an id card to make sure i got every last bit of kif and pulverized bud. All my stoner friends thought i was so cool when i got one. I used to buy a new smoking tool atleast once a month. Now my head shop is 100 miles away and my stoner friends are 50 miles away. I hate moving.

The thing is, it's much easier to scrape kief off of a flat plastic surface than it is to scrape it off your fingernails or your skin. I hate hippie-picking, it's a waste of time and the sticky fingers bother me as well. If your fingers get sticky after, that's a waste of sweet sweet resin, but it can be easily collected and scraped from your grinder.
