Keef Box/Grinder Questions

so the holidays have came around, and i ended up with a grinder and pollen press among my gifts. i've used the grinder a few times, but still had a few questions about it:

1. how exactly do you use it, step by step, as far as the keef box goes. it's been used a few times, but with very little amounts of keef, and i just wanted to make sure i was doing it right.

2. how much herb would one have to grind to get a decent amount of keef, say, maybe half a gram or so? i know it will vary widely depending on the quality and strain of the herb, but i was looking for a general amount.

3. what's the best way to use the grinder/press without without lossing much of the keef? (like how to collect it for instance)

anyways, yeah, my first post, and probably a pretty simple question, but i couldn't find any answers to it on here, so i figured i'd go ahead and ask! thanks y'all!

First you stick the bud onto the spikes while trying to keep it away from the middle or the very edge of the grinder, and impale it with the lid while twisting. Try to take out as many seed or stems as possible before grinding. Then you take out all the seeds and/or stems (I use a pair of jewler's tweezers for this I'll take a picture) and that's it. You can shake the pot inside the grinder or stir it around if you want more kif to come off it. That's all there is too it.

Decent amount? An ounce really. You can get about a hit of kif off of a 1/8th of good mids though, so an ounce would be about 8 hits usually more. Dro generally doesn't produce that much kif because it's usually fresh. However if you get some properly dried out dro, it will produce more than mids.

Just use it normally- you really don't have to worry about losing kif unless you spill it out of the dish.

If the grinder is not a SpaceCase you may or may not get a lot of kif. SpaceCase is the only guarenteed kif grinder out right now.

The press is really best used when you want to take kif somewhere, because it's best smoked as a powder. A kif press is just a way to make kif portable.

holy damn are you kidding me. I just got my spacecase and i thought it would take way less bud than that. I was expecting to grind up about an 8th and share some keif with my friends because they want to try it...i guess thats not working out. sorry to kinda hijack the thread but if you get about one hit of kief off of an 8th, how long will that one hit last?

he was talking about good mids. i got my first 1/8th of white widow the other day and it made about a bowl of kief, which is more than enough to share with your friends (but i didn't!).

my favorite way to squeeze a little more kief out of the sack is to put a CLEAN quarter or a few pennies in to the grinder and shake it softly after grinding the weed. i have noticed, however, that the kief is a little less potent this way because of the other stuff getting down there (plant shavings mainly, but whole hairs can get in there with some luck). also, make sure to get something like a paintbrush to sweep out the entire grinder for the rest of the kief and small bits of weed. kief can hide in a lot of corners in a grinder.

If you don't have a spacecase, you probably can get an average size bowl of kif from about a quarter or so, but it's not as pure as spacecase kif. I found more plant matter comes throo my screent han it would a space case

I haven't even grinded up an 1/8th since last Saturday, and I have more than a bowl of kief. I just dumped it all into my new kief holder.

yea but i heard kief hits you like a brick wall and last like 3 hours, when i smoke herb it last around an hour though

Depends where you are at, for a magnetic one, between $50-$100 for a medium sized one.

I got mine for $80.

What i do is grind all my bud, (the better the bud the more crystals) and by the time I'm out and cannot find any bud is when the Keif comes in handy. You can scrape your pieces then roll the resin in the Keif to make it taste alright and it will "stain your tatter". Also i got a plastic version of the spacecase on eBay for 3 bucks... It does the job and has all the same compartments and as the expensive metal ones and as a extra bonus i walked threw airport security with it the other day and no buzzers went off...
