No, but the more time it spends in the box the more kif you'll get. And the handling you do to and from the box, if you don't want to keep it in there all the time, will lose you a little each time..

What I do is get my HO, O, or whatever, weigh out half a weeks to a weeks supply and let it dry out and get all crumbly in my box. The drier your bud is the more kief you'll get as well.

You could buy a a kif box just to shake it in but if that's all you wanted it for there's the much less expensive way of putting it in a jar with pantyhose stretched over the top.

I think a picture will help

Most boxes are simlpe and wooden. They are nothing more than a place to store you weed. You put your large-ish quantity of bud in the box (small amounts of bud seem kind of pointless in a kif box), then every day, you pinch off what you are gonna smoke. Just the fact that you handle the weed every so often, and the fact that you move it around on the screen will make crystals fall off and go into the compartment below. It takes a while to get a good amount of kif, but as im sure the owners will tell you, its well worth the wait and investment if you are cool with investing in weed. ANd yes, you CAN shake it around and get more crystals to fall off, but thats sort of what this thread is about. The original poster is worried about losing so many crystals that the potency of what he takes out of the box is lessened. Personaly, I think it is such a small amount its not even noticable. That is, unless of course you shake the box. Then I think you might reaching a point where its a noticable difference in THC content.

So yea, just dont shake the damn thing!!!

Put your bud in here:

then, after a couple of weeks, take off the screen, and under it is nothing but a second compartment. Scrape up your kif, and do what you want with it!!!

My advice is to get one! They don't really affect potency to a noticeable degree. I sell buds after vigorous kiefing in my box to my good friends, and I haven't had one compliant in product quality (I even tell them I kiefed it!). The amount of kief you can get off of a quarter would make maybe from .1g to .5g of kief. My recommendation is to get a press (or make one) if you plan on collecting a lot of kief, it makes storage a breeze.
