Y'all need to get a better class of nickels where you're at.

I went through every single one I had and they all came out at 5 grams apiece.

Most pawn shops will have calibration weight for their own scales just stop in and ask them Offer to pay a $1, Jewelry stores also most likely wil have a varrying set of calibration weights so you could try them too.

I need to recalibrate mine as well. Been wondering what to do, but I think my dad has a vintage scale set that has 100g weights.

You really should use the proper weight for calibration, especially if you going to weigh less than an ounce. And all scales don't use 100g weights for calibration. A scale that weighs up to 400g may use a 200g weight to calibrate. My Durascale (accurate to .01g) uses a 50g weight. I would only use coins or dollars on a triple beam scale.

something else that you can do that will usually work is just taking the scale into a headshop(or a cornerstore that sells scales) and ask them if you can borrow a weight for a quick calibration.

Mine uses 100g weights. How is the 100g weight I have not sufficient enough? Are you saying I should use coins (nickels) rather than a 100g weight to calibrate?

No, I was saying an accurate calibration for a digital scale needs the right weight. Coins and bills, especially in quantity, are going to give you a weight that's not exactly 100g. It's close enough for weighing an ounce, but I wouldn't want to be .5g off on a quarter, for example. And you have to know the proper calibration weight for the particular scale you have. I can't use a 100g weight for my Durascale. It only goes up to 50g. My previous model had a limit of 300g and used a 100g weight. Another model from the same manufacturer goes up to 400g but uses a 200g weight for calibration.

Digitalscale.com has some excellent reviews if anyone is looking for a quality scale.
