I've always used metal screens, but hate the taste for the first half dozen hits. However, I've also always been able to harvest the resin out of my pipe w/ a blowtorch. Using the metal screen, I get a beautiful, ash-free golden resin out of the pipe. Will I still be able to get the same resin if I use a glass filter?

Yes, you still get resin with a glass screen. Glass screens do the same thing except they don't form a layer over the bottom of the pipe like metal screens do. I remember the good old days of smoking resin

Thanks a bunch! Malleus Christus (my pipe) is now purple-black w/ resin and needing to be cleaned. I'm hoping to chronicle the transformation from black tar to clear glass with pictures, then post them on here.

i've gone through about 500 of those things and don't even bother anymore. mine always accidentally get tapped out when the bowl's cashed and thrown out, or get stuck to the bowl and break when i'm trying to get it out... more trouble than they're worth, IMO.

if you just throw the ash into an ashtray you can actually get em out really easily. normally i just pick up my mini trashcan and blow thru the pipe, but lately i've been using an old pen with 1 end melted flat and wide, works for getting the ash out and packing the bowl, and i get to keep my screens =)

well, no kidding, unless i'm stoned and forget that i had the screen in, and since it looks like a piece of resin or charred bud, why would i remember to pick that up? i was exaggerating when i said i've been through 500, but it honestly has probably been close to 30 or 40 in the past couple years. they don't work for me. i just always lose them.

To each his/her own. I'm the same way about forgetting things most of the time, high or not, but what I do when I smoke a bowl at home is leave the pipe bowl there until the next day, so I can do all that when I'm high, that and I hate cleaning out my bowl while trying to enjoy the high =)

Have you gone back to metal screens? And if you have, how do you stand the taste? \\Honestly, the taste of the metal didn't bother me for years, until I quit smoking Tabacco. After that, I regained my sense of taste and from then on couldn't stand metal screens.


And they are easy to loose if you're not really, really careful. I went through 4 in the first two days I started using them, but since then I haven't lost one.
