what are those scales with the weight on one end and a hook on the other called.

the kindh when you hook a bag on it lifts the weight and tells you how much the bag weighs.

The type of scale you describe is called a balance beam. Hand-held postal scales are a kind of balance beam but are not accurate enough for weighing weed. I don't know about you, but I'd want better than half-ounce accuracy.

"How much does this bag weigh?"
"An ounce, give or take 14 grams"

Thats completely false information. For in fact I have a digital scale and a "hand scale" and its usually accurate within .5 of a gram.

I've never seen hand-held postal scales (the kind with the alligator clip) calibrated more closely than half an ounce. I wasn't speaking of balance beam scales in general. High tech lab versions can be accurate to the microgram level.
