When i smoke i usually just pull apart the bud myself by hand. What are the advantages to using a grinder?

More even grind, a lot of grinders have kief catchers (which is THC you loose on your hands when breaking it up by hand) that you can use to... catch the kief.

breaking apart supppper sticky buds can be time consuming.. grinders break the bud up in a matter of seconds.. and all the trichomes that fall off collect in the bottom and can evuntally be smoked when youve got enough built up. that is if your grinder has a kief catcher.. some are just two pieces.

I've always used an electric coffee grinder to grind up buds if I need them ground up. Then I just hold it upside down and smack it on the table and voila all the extra THC is on my table.

well i like a grinder because ya any buds can be grinded up to a nice fluffy substance and also if you get the bonus keif area. and you can just keep the weed in there so its a storage unit too.

I can get a wooden grinder at the local tobacco shop for $8.

You can get a plastic or wooden (w/metal teeth) grinder for under $10 at most any head shop. I have a plastic grinder that is missing half its teeth (they break easily) as well as a wooden grinder (w/metal teeth). I wouldn't waste my money on a plastic grinder. Investing in an all-metal grinder would be the best way to go but they are more expensive.

You can get an acrylic (not plastic) grinder that works well for 5 or 6 dollars. No need to for metal, really.

Just don't put those big hulking stems that you get in brick-bud in there.
