| Does food make THC break down faster in our blood? Some people say food reduces their high but others disagree. |

| Getting the munchies is a common symptom of smoking marijuana. So by eating i think you trick yourself into feeling less stoned because you have eliminated one of the effects of the THC. As for food having an effect on THC, I don't really see it. There is a simple solution if food reduces your high... just smoke another bowl! |

| Well that is a good Q, and if you think about the human digestive physiology involved, then a plausible explanation for that phenomenon may emerge: When you are getting high and enjoying the high it is caused by the D9THC circulating in your bloodstream. This THC is fairly well dosed in your bloodstream after toking some good hits of herb and therefore circulates via the bloodstream around your brain--specifically becoming attached to the "reward centers" in your brain. So, while you're high and not eating, that blood circulation is in a "steady state" and enables a prolonged sensation of high. When you eat a meal, you are stimulating the digestive system and causing bloodstream flow to be moreso shunted towards your digestive sys [stomach, intestines] to facilitate absorption of nutrients from food. This causes a shift in the "steady state" of blood circulation away from the pre-balance that was in the brain and towards the stomach. Net biophysical effect is less D9THC-enriched blood bathing the brain, net psychological effect is a dampening of the duration of the 'high' sensation. From my experience as a bud blazer I tend to eat a meal about 30 mins b4 I get high if possible so I can forstall the need for munchies; if I eat anything while I"m trying to enjoy my high--which usually lasts about 45 mins to 1hr--then I only drink fruit juice or suck on a coff drop. So, for what it's worth, this is my hypothetical explanation for the reduced duration of the "high" after eating a meal; and I open my explanation up to you'alls critique.

| The way I see it... Everything is a drug. You consumed pot, you feel its effects. You consumed food, you feel its effects. Since you ate after your pot, the food has the ability to over power the pot feelings. | |

So food is not a drug. Considering that marijuana effects the brain via bloodstream and food effects the digestive system, there shouldnt be any real change. There is still the same amount of THC circulating in the blood . Unless you urinate of course. ![]() | |

| in my experience after I eat. I don't really feel that high. Then again maybe its the time past while eating, since as time goes by you lose your high. |

| I feel just as high after I eat as I do before. However, some of my friends complain about eating while high because it makes them more lethargic and supposedly not as high. What researcher says does make sense, however.. doesn't THC saturate your blood than get absorbed into fat cells and your brain tissue? So would eating really have that big of an effect on your high?

| Your brain has plenty of settings and when high I think that it can shut down your digestive system or make it to where it isn't as apparent but it keeps the feeling of hunger. Seems like hell to try and urinate while I'm high so trying to do so or consuming food may increase the power going to your digestive system and cause a temporary soberness. Also wanted to add this: After reading my post I think it may not make any sense at all and to politely ask that no one judge it because it makes sense to me but it's not in the exact words I need so it probably looks like it was written by a 'non-Shakespeare writing' monkey.

Insofar as the OP's question. I can only respond empirically, based on half a century of smoking pot. Eating definitely deflates my high so I usually eat what I need to right up front, then wait (as researcher does) 30 to 40 minutes so that my energy is sustained for the duration that I want the cannabis effect to last and then go for it. I only eat when- 1- I want to come down 2- The thought of munchies is too much to bear. The whys and the wherefores I'll leave to others... ![]()
