| While a man going in to service should know not to use legal or illegal drugs prior to testing, if you fail you shouldn't be allowed to serve. If they are allowed to serve then an additional test should be required if they fail that one then dishonorable discharge should take place. Of course, I assume they will think logically. - TurbulentHigh

| ..that's America for you.. not like it's the first time they did something like this.. there was a bill introduced in the 1920's which gave black people equal rights, so they would be willing to serve.. once WWII was over, the "treaty" was dissolved, and American racism hit its highest mark since slavery was abolished i'm sick of it | |

The TRUTH of the matter is that the military was SEGREGATED untill after WWII. African-Americans did not begin to receive equal rights in the Active military forces untill Truman made it an executive order. Barry Goldwater,in his autobiography "Goldwater" claims to have set up the Arizona Air National Guard (reserve) in '46 as an entegrated force, but this is STILL after WWII. What makes you think the post WWII era was the most racist part of American history anyway? The KKK reached its peak in the 1920s with membership in the hundreds of thousands!!! This was the saddest chapter in American history ; lynchings, cross burnings, bombings... You are indeed clueless in the history of the USA. I suggest you first check your facts and name your sources. ps The FIRST civil rights legestlation signed into law since Reconstruction was in 1956, by Dwight D Eisenhower. The most effective was the Voting Rights Act of 1964 signed by LBJ. | |

Just FYI, the first integrated unit of the Active Army was a military police unit in Germany performing occupation duties. They were experiemental to see how it would work. It worked just fine. Not only that, but the Klan was so powerful at the time, candidates actually ran as Klan party members. One governor (Indiana IIRC) was elected as a Klan party member, as were other positions scattered through the US. Another history factoid: The Republican party was founded because the existing parties wouldn't oppose slavery.

| Actually, it was Truman that first got the ball rolling in 1948 and issued Executive Order 9981 declaring that "there shall be equality of treatment and opportunity for all persons in the armed services without regard to race, color, religion, or national origin." Read more. |

| being retired military from the army i see a need for persecuting or men and woman of the armed forces for failing a test. in the military there is a different set of laws from those of the civilian population it is called ," the uniform code of military justice" they are suppose to set an example for the generations to come. these people are heros no doubt about it. but even a hero needs to face the music when he breaks the law. if me as a former army enlistee is able to get popped for it i really don't think there should be special treatment for someone who is still in. remember these people are roll models for our children.
