Default "Physical Dependence"

They say this about most drugs: If you use it to much, you will be physically dependent.

I dont think that most stoners have a dependence at all. I'm not saying that this is not true and that I dont believe it. In fact, I think that it can be true in some cases, but here is my piece.

If you use a drug so much, your body learns how to function. Keep in mind, I still mean physical, not mental. For things like alcohol, this is a bad thing. You can develop liver problems and such. Harder drugs can lead to brain damage and most dangerous, overdose.

But here is my question to the masses. To all of the people out there who think marijuana is so addicting. What is the problem with with having a physical dependence on marijuana? Wow, it makes you happier and appreciate music more. It makes you sleepy or hungry. Physical dependence is a non issue people. Nobody is going to function any less while smoking weed every day. Your body isnt going to explode and your brain isnt going to stop functioning from THC. So what is the big deal?

Marijuana is addicting actually, but you don't need it, so it doesn't interfere with your daily acctivites when you don't have it.
And there are little to no withdrawal symptoms that come along with it, so you can easily quit if needed.

And about the 'whats wrong if you were physically dependent on it comment.'
Well, imagine if you were..
You would be sitting in class/work, fuck I need a smoke now...
You would be pissy at people occasionally.
If you need to save money for your rent, it doesn't matter because you would NEED to buy marijuana.

No one can even agree on what an addiction actually is.

It was inevitable that they should make that claim sooner or later: the logic of their position demanded it. Not merely the validity of experience, but the very existence of external reality, was tacitly denied by their philosophy. The heresy of heresies was common sense. And what was terrifying was not that they would kill you for thinking otherwise, but that they might be right. For, after all, how do we know that two and two make four? Or that the force of gravity works? Or that the past is unchangeable? If both the past and the external world exist only in the mind, and if the mind itself is controllable what then?"

Everything is ^^
reading a book, drinking water, eating, running, candy, soda, caffeine, anything and everything can be addicting.

and the definition of addiction is the state of being enslaved to a habit or practice or to something that is psychologically or physically habit-forming

Read about CB1 and CB2 receptors.

Regular use of marijuana will lead to downregulation of cannabinoid receptors in the brain and body. If you stop smoking, these receptors will return to normal within a period of time which I cannot totally recall, or which may not be fully known. I would say something like 3 days to 2 weeks. Yes I know that's a huge range but I don't have a better answer than that right now.

In addition, smoking marijuana affects specifically the amygdala and hippocampus regions of the brain. These are responsible for many brain functions including but not limited to compulsive behavior and memory.

If I recall, proper amygdala and hippocampus functioning will return to normal 1, and 2 weeks after cessation (following chronic usage) respectively. I can't stand behind these numbers for sure though as I think this may have been data from rat studies which is not really reliable for humans if youre talking about timelines.

Marijuana does cause withdrawal, but it's about the weakest withdrawal available. I have a much easier time staying away from smoking weed than, say, caffeine.

I just recently quit smoking hash. The last time was about 6 days ago. I had 3 days of poor appetite, which was significantly reduced by intense exercise. All sleep problems can be alleviated by mild supplementation of melatonin, so this was not a problem. I have had no problem staying away from it.

Earlier today I couldnt get my regular morning 50mg of caffeine. I could hardly keep myself awake while a professor was talking about my future as an engineer. It was terrible.

I'm the exact same way. I get in a bad state without caffeine, but it isn't so with marijuana. The only times it bugs me at ALL is if I feel like it's a good time to toke and I have none.

the first few days im kinda upset when I have to go cold turkey for something, but it's not extreme and I can easily resist it and by the end of the week wont be thinking about it. That is until I smoke again and realize how much better things are when I'm high, especially if I had quit long enough for my tolerance to go down to nothing again.

One of the things that deter some people about marijuana aren't about it's effects on the body or the lungs... Some people just think it's a disgusting way of life to feel like you need to intoxicate yourself regularly to live your life.
