i use a bong to smoke weed, but every time i take my first toke, i nearly "puke up a lung" because im coughing so much. i could be caughing for 5 minutes or more, but evry hit after, im fine.

ive tried cold water, new bong water, ice, even smoking with beer in my bong (not related to beer bongs).
please help a fellow smoker

99% of the time, the problem here is that you're simply taking too big of a first hit. Slow down, mellow out, and instead of sucking the bong's face and making your gums bleed, approach it gently and inhale only enough to generate a current of smoke into your lungs--and keep it short. The weed ain't going anywhere and it's not a race. Take your time and let each hit have its effect on you before you go for another. But the crucial thing is to start gently, like a tender lover. Save the rough stuff for later.
I've heard the more you cough the more you get off, but it ain't true.

Yea your taking to much smoke than you can handle. Im assuming your still a begginner, so relax on the hits. Pack smaller bowls and dont kill yourself when you inhale.

Take light hits. I've seen people who like to take heavy hits and while they're taking the hit they light the bud more and more and they end up having a bad time because they're coughing. You could also try to take half a hit then exhale it then take the other half that's in your bong.

Yup you are probably taking hits that are too big. Another possibility, is your bong clean? If it is caked with resin that can make the hits harsh, so you should clean it well before you use it again, that should help.

well for me, don't go for a big bong hit the first time. Maybe pack a tiny pipe and do that first, and then go at the bong.

Your lungs are at the weakest before you smoke any amount. After the first lung full your body relaxes its reflexs

It might be tempting to take a big first hit, but trust me, it doesn't usually end all that well. xD

Just take it slow and dont inhale to much. Its a waste if you take a big hit and then cough all of the smoke back out.

ps. Maybe its a good idea to drink some milk before you take a puff. That might help.
