Does it matter? These are old games which take up relatively no memory and cost very little in todays standards. Both are great games for different reasons...so why dont you get both?

AoK was definitely the best. one of the first non childrens games i ever played. i would spend hours on the easiest mode consuming every last resoucre on the map then making a giant herd of elephants and sending them into the computer's town. sure, not the most skilled or useful strategy ever, but that was fun for me. even today i still have AoK on my computer

Starcraft, a perfectly balanced game with unlimited possibilites with use map settings. Not to mention Battle.net doesn't lag much.

Agreed with BigMac. That was probably the most fun, balanced RTS game I've ever played. AoE can't even come close.

i never really got into either, i was playing starcraft with some friends and we had fun, but i never got good at. I havent played age of empires but i can say that i prefer aoe2 over SC. In aoe2 you have more control over buildings and units, while sc seems to be the most units wins all the time.

battle.net is fucked for me, otherwise i would say starcraft is better, mostly because i dont like the old times thing, i reckun all those sorts of things would be much better modernised, like runescape for example, how awesome would it be if they made a gangster modern one with a GTA feel.
