| Hey, just popping a question to anyone who might have any information for me on this one. Ever since I got out of the military a few years back I've had some pretty annoying insomnia. I just can't 'shut off' my brain. Call it an overactive imagination if you will. It can take me 3 hours of laying down just to pass out. Then once I finally get sleep I'll wake up 3-5 hours later feeling terrible. I'll be alert, but I always end up crashing by 2pm and enter zombie mode for the rest of the day even if I'm off from work...and the ubermensch routine doesn't work. I talked to my doctor a couple times over that time period and he would always try to get me to take various pills. I've always been wary of pills for a bunch of reasons, and I would always research them up to find a host of 'kidney, liver, stomach damage, constipation, fatigue, nausea' and wonderful things like that with long term use. The doc says I have chronic insomnia, so taking these meds over a long time period isn't appealing. He did recommend a few pills that were safe as far as I've researched, but were still pretty expensive. And of course, ever since I tried marijuana it just lets my mind drift away so I can finally nod off when I need to sleep. In fact usually I'll smoke one night and I end up getting a good nights rest for a couple days in a row. It even takes a lot of discomfort away from an injury I got a while ago. The problem? Weed isn't available all the time, and sometimes it has the opposite effect if its sativa. The funny thing is some of my dealers don't even know what kind they're selling. Not to mention it's a no no in my US state. So the big question is if it is simple to get prescribed some MMJ? It's illegal in my state but I'm probably moving within the year anyway for different reasons. Plus I don't have any experience with asking about it with my doc because of the legality issue and receiving a lecture about it. I don't care if its the lamest weed on the planet, as long as I get to snooze it's all good. Plus it helps kick my writers block in the nuts to boot. Can't argue with that. Meditation helps a bit, but It works best with MJ throw in to the mix.

| Your insomnia sounds somewhat like mine, except once I finally got to sleep, I would wake up constantly through out the night and sometime not be able to get back to sleep. Theres a lot more to it but I won't get into all that right now. Anyway, in California chronic insomnia is valid a condition for MMJ recommendation. Check with NORML for a list of MMJ Dr.s in your state. I know this sounds cliché and unless you really have chronic insomnia you just don't understand, but MMJ has changed my life.

| Weed works wonders for insomnia, and depending on the state I believe that is one problem they prescribe for, at least in California. There are certain doctors you may be able to find that are fluent in what marijuana is good for, you need to find one of those. Your run of the muck "pharmaceutically paid" doctors will just pitch you some ambien.

| Yeah, thanks for the info guys. The lack of sleep just lowers the my daily efficiency to unacceptable levels. Not to mention it makes me feel like crap all the time. Only lately have I become more assertive towards medical marijuana. It's the one thing I know that works, doesn't drastically hamper my thought processes, has practically zero side effects and is fairly priced. It'll be a while before I finally move or if my state (hopefully) legalizes medicinal use but I'll keep gathering information. |
