| Among other things, this link touches on the treatment of dissenting voices in our society. This is relevant to the world in crisis because it influences how we perceive both the world and the pending war. http://nyc.indymedia.org/front.php3?article_id=10031 Feel free to offer your constructive criticism, in fact I encourage it! Thank you for your thoughtfull consideration. Peace, Harrad. ![]() Alsosee: http://seattle.indymedia.org/front.php3?article_id=6815 |

| yes Parts of what we see in the media is propaganda! Seeing people(mostly children) jumping around and being happy about the fact that the two WTC were shot down is propaganda, because it only shows half of the truth. Many people will think, all muslims think that way. they bring the same pictures time and time again Give any child a flag and he will jump around Go to Germany and film the NEO-NAZI scene and show it to the whole world. They will tihnk every german is a NAZI | |

| Harrad, Tell us, what is your opinion of this? NEW YORK CITY--Since Tuesday's horrific terror attacks, Americans have been under a nearly unprecedented propaganda barrage. I agree... I think this article stinks of it too. McChesney says that public anger is being manipulated by the choice and repetition of certain images and voices. The mainstream media set certain limits on the range of analysis deemed acceptable as well as the conclusions to be drawn from this analysis. A parade of former high US officials--Henry Kissinger, Madelaine Albright, Alexander Haig, George Schultz, Norman Schwartzkopf, Richard Holbrooke, et. al.--march across television screens in close formation. "What's only mentioned infrequently is that so-called "experts" always have a background, an agenda. They are not neutral do-gooders, " McChesney said. Hummm... These all sould like experts to me. I have no clue what the agenda would be. Who would you have in their place? McChesney himself? I'd also like to know when these folks have been parading around. "...Being a terrorism expert in America means never having to say you're sorry. (who said that?) Without exception, their definition of terror is restricted to enemies of the United States government. The United States' role in the world is rarely mentioned and likewise it's definition of terrorism is strictly off limits. It leaves viewers and readers with a bizarre idea of how the world works. An almost incomprehensible view." Okay, so this article doesn't think that readers know too much about what is going on in the world. The words concerning the US's roll in the world, I just don't get. The New York Post ("Kill Those Bastards") called for Afghanistan to be turned into a "basketball court". Notions of restraint were hard to find. I'm not sure, but "Kill Those Bastards" sounds like an editorial to me. Notions of restraint are found everywhere. Nobody has retaliated at all yet. We have waited for other governments to make their decisions, and have given the chance for people to turn over Bin Laden. "I heard no one saying that violence breeds violence and that a massive retaliation may only invite more of the same," said Danny Schecter, a former network television producer who founded mediachannel.org. I have heard people say that violence breeds violence. Most of the people of the US would agree that when we do retaliate, we would expect to get some back. Is the article suggesting that we just sit with our thumbs up our rears and let 7,000 people die? Perhaps we should give terrorists the bomb and let them carve out the hearts of our cities? On Wednesday, the FBI began asking Internet providers to install Carnivore technology to monitor all email transmissions. And, a growing chorus of Congressional voices is calling for hefty increases to the current $328 billion per year military budget. What does this have to do with the rest of the article?' "Whenever you see this much coverage pointing in one direction, you should always feel for your wallet and head in the other direction," McChesney said."When it's this much of a barrage, then it's almost without exception going to be pure propaganda." Daniel ducks and runs while holding on to his wallet. This article stinks of propaganda. That is what I think of the story. Daniel |

| I don't think that media is working in some conspiracy, but they do have an agenda. And that is to report the news in a way that they come off in a good light. You don't see the media saying anything about peace or waiting or anything like the essay you posted earlier because people are pissed off. For the most part, people don't want to hear that. And what does the media want? Ratings! They are not gonna put anything out there that is a dissenting opinion in this situation because they lose viewers or readers. The sad thing is that most people will only look at what the media is saying. They forget that the rest of the world sees the US as a big, rich bully. I am NOT justifying anything with this post. These attacks demand retribution, but they also demand change. peace and much love |

| I wish I could vote, but 3 of the choices are yes and the fourth, the only no, requires you to blindly put faith in the media. It appears to this reader that the author of the post had his own agenda.

| Love polls where you can explain your answers I checked "Yes, Mainstream media influences our opinions but I trust in the direction [their taking us] I have to define who I think They are don't I to answer this question. They are the mass media and the folks controlling them are some of the finest minds in the world culled through immigration, naturalization, birth, honed by war, peace, negotiation, strategy, toughened by fear, racism, torture , and intolerance. Personally under the direction of the Kissingers, ALbrights, the Powells, and now the Petersons of our nation (Peterson is our former ambassador to Vietnam and a former guest of North Vietnam's Hanoi Hilton for over 6 years) I do trust They are "taking care of us". So far in my book they are succeding at a Herculean task. So That's how I voted Yes. Mama Budz * I Toke & I Vote * | |

| Anyone who gets their information from a single source and takes it for the truth is a fool. I get my news from Google News, which looks at more than 4,000 periodicals and news web sites. When you read three or four versions of the same story from different sources, you can begin to filter out the inevitable bias, leaving only the facts.
