Im new here and didnt know which forum to post this is, but I want to know if you all really believe that weed is a gateway drug? I dont personally and just think its a bunch of crap.

Just today, I got a question marked wrong on a test for labeling a statement saying TOBACCO a gateway drug "false".

Cocaine, heroin, meth users have almost always used marijuana, and that is where these supposed "facts" about it being a gateway drug comes from. But not vise versa.

There is no chemical evidence showing that marijuana leads to harder substances. It is absolutely false.

The only thing that makes mj a gateway drug is the fact that you have to go to a dealer, and not a store. With a dealer, your more likely to be expossed to hard drugs, and in time, he or she will have something more profitable for you to try.
You've already justified breaking one law (buying mj)and decided mj 's not so bad for you so your more likely to try something else.
White boy is right ,it's the laws that makes mj a gateway drug.

I know the only time I did hard drugs is when my dealer did'nt have any mj(serious dry spell) but had something "new and inproved" for me to try.

Honestly the only reason MJ is any gateway at all is its criminality. Once people try MJ and realize its not so bad they question the criminal laws... or at the very least now they have crossed the line.

When someone offers them coke at a party, they can't rely on the automatic defense "I don't do drugs, not illegal ones" because, well... they do! So now its left up to them to come up with a reason for not doing coke, and we all know people who fall under pressure real fast.

It would be way different if pot wasn't illegal, people wouldn't think of it as a 'drug' anymore. They'd just be like, "Hell no I don't want any coke, I don't do drugs" now wouldn't that be nice?

Its just like cigarettes, nobody leaps into drugs from cigarettes (at least because of the cigarettes), because they are legal.

It's all based on statistics! Most hard drug users use weed too, so therefore pot is considered a 'gateway drug'. What the government fails to comment on, though, is the fact that most marijuana smokers are not hard drug users, which disproves their theory.

i agree that it is the person not the drug....peeps start off with herb because i'm guessing, they're guessin it's the least harmful...i mean who's gonna start with heroin and needles, same as alcohol...it mostly starts with beer....then they just wana get ****ed up faster and harder so go to liqour...people that become addicts with hard drugs arn't looking to just chill...they wana get beyond ****ed up...so again it's the person not the herbs.
