There has been an increase in research to find out the medical effects of MJ, and I have come across many articles talking about how marijuana could cure/slow the advance of cancer. So I'm curious, do you think marijuana is the cure for cancer? Why or why not?

If you do think it is the cure, what do you think is the reason for why the media hasn't been reporting on it.

For me, I believe it can at least treat cancer. I'm a little skeptical to say it is the cure though. I talked to my mom about this a few months back and she told me how her cousin's mother had skin cancer about 30 years ago, and how she convinced her mom to try smoking MJ to aid in treating it... And what do you know? She's now cancer free! She is 90 years old today and is still going strong. To my knowledge, she was not going through any other types of treatment at the time, so I can only assume that the MJ aided in curing her cancer.

It would be great if it were, but I highly doubt it. Especially with no real research to back it up. If I were diagnosed with cancer, I'd pick conventional treatments as opposed to relying on marijuana.

Absolutely not. If the cure for cancer was something as simple as marijuana, it would have been discovered long ago. There is no way that marijuana alone will rid you of cancer.

None of us could answer if it could cure cancer, theres also different types of cancer. Marijuana studies have been done and some people have said that it can slow or stop tumors from growing when being used but theres no study to show that it cures cancer.

According to the sources I've come across, the U.S. did research into this in the 1970's and again in the 1990's and each time they found evidence that it could aid in fighting cancer of all kinds (brain, skin, prostate, breast, lung, etc.). For what ever reason, the U.S. government halted the research and banned future research to be done both in the 70's and 90's. Current research is being done abroad (Spain is one) but the U.S. government tends not to accept research done by other countries because of different testing and research techniques

This is true. Most of the studies that have been done have been limited to lab rats, so this doesn't mean the same results they've been finding will occur with humans. Last I read, Spain started testing the theory on humans within the past few years.

I hope they discover something good!!

Yes, I believe that marijuana can aid in treatment of cancer. There is a big difference there. It may be able to prolong cancer, or help with the symptoms, but that doesn't mean it's a cure. They banned future research not because they found it worked, but because that's what the American government has always done with marijuana research. I don't think they're hiding the cure from us, if that's what you're inferring

If marijuana is a cure for cancer, I have a couple of deceased pothead family members that deserve an explanation.

I remember hearing something like this a while ago, but I couldnt comment, Im not a scientist of any kind. I do know however the body works in miraculous ways, sometimes even mind over matter. This being said, Marijuana has been proven to work as an analgesic and a general reliever (nausea, aches etc). Being in pain does consume ones energy, so maybe marijuana can help indirectly by moderating your energy through pain relief. This could be important because that energy could go towards repairing an already resilient organ ... just a theory.

It is not a cure, but a prevention method. It kills immature cancer cells, but once the cancer is established, you'll need a crap load of THC to kill the cancer. You'll have to be super stoned permanently to be able to get rid of mature cancer via weed, and as much as I love being stoned, it would suck if I have to be too stoned permanently.

I certainly hope this isn't the case, but I guess I don't know how serious the U.S. government takes population control?

I sort of doubt that through simply smoking MJ you would rid your body of cancer, but I can imagine that scientists could make some medical breakthroughs through the research of MJ. Who knows?
