| The good doctor complains about how the Grand Old Party has tarnished the word liberal. They may have to some extent, but even greater damage was done by president Lyndon B Johnson. Some say Bush is lying to us on subjects such as WMD and the reasons for the war. Bush never uttered a whopper bigger than "I will not send American boys to do a job that should be done by Asian boys." Within 3 years he had 500,000+ American boys in Vietnam. It was the GOP candidate in '64 who was supposed to be the "trigger happy extreemist. Yea, right! The "incident" in Tonkin Gulf that LBJ used to launch his war was yet another huge lie. How many casualties were there on the two navy destroyers? Zero! How much damage? none! The two ships were supporting raids on North Vietnam by the South, but Johnson was not about to let that out! And then there was the so called "Great Society." Can anyone call that program a success with a straight face. Huge spending for wellfare, "the projects" that became instant slums and homes for dope dealers...I could go on but that would be beating a dead donkey, er, horse. Where did I park my elephant, anyway... PS please don't try to tell me Ike started the Vietnam war. When he left office there were about 600 advisors to ARVN. This was enough to teach the South Vietnamese to defend themselves. the president knew that if the people would not support the government, sending combat troops would be of no help.At the time of the assassination of Kennedy there were 16,000.That's a lot of "advisors" isn't it... |

| yo, can we focus a bit on the topic at hand?? ![]() the question isn't worded so hot. if you're looking at a bowl of green you might well think, "this isn't political, i'm gonna smoke it." but my vote is "Completly" [sic], and the argument is simple: why are tobacco and alcohol legal and mj isn't? pure politics. 400,000 in the US die each year due to tobacco, it's a joke. if mj prohibition were based on medical science then tobacco (and alcohol) prohibition would be higher priorities. (if you accept that prohibition is the right answer for these things in the first place.) a very good book that clarifies the political origins of the "war on drugs" is: Smoke and Mirrors: The War on Drugs and the Politics of Failure, by Dan Baum. it's a page turner, well-written. it'll make you mad too. About 21st century conservatives, this is what they value: - big government - borrow and spend - legislate morality - cash in the future for fleeting, short term gain

| I believe that marijuana has a great deal to do with politics, because there is such a controversy on whether or not to legalize it, even for medical use. |

| Marijuana prohibition has been political since day one, and it will stay that way until the prohibition laws are repealed.

| I feel that since the Constitution is printed on Hemp Paper we will need to rewrite it on Paper that isn't against the Law. Or we just can roll it and smoke it to get the Framers mind in the plants they grew. After all Tobbaco was the main product that produced money for the Plantations even today. Politics is haveing to rule you by Law but not nessasary for your own good. More die each year than the ones that acually use. The ones that die of drugs is not nothing compared to the ones fighting agaist it. I am not saying drugs are right or wrong I just feel it is no ones business in what I take into my body as long as I don't effect others by my using. Drinking is more dangerous than smoking when driving and some even enhance reaction. I really use common sense other than the Law makers use. ![]()

| It seems to me that it is a plant, naturally growing, and has been used for thousands of years for many things. There is no plausable answer in the poll, except for what i have chosen. First off, It should not be a political issue at all, in part by what I have stated above. But the fact is, we as people have made it a political issue. We as people are responsable for allowing our governments to place the ban. weather it was due to a racial issue, or a control issue, or both. and all I can say is that it is we as a people that are responsable to get this ban lifted. Speek up people. talk to your friends, aquaintences, coworkers. seems most people are afraid to do this, they are afraid of ridicule. One thing we have left is the fredom of speech. it is up to us all to open the eyes of others. Most people see it as a Gov't issue......so start talking about that. Make them see what our government has done, make them se what we have alowed our government to do. Let our voices be heard!!! peace to all Finetree |
